My set just arrived today and I couldn't be happier! I had to get this review written with all due haste. These bins are simply MARVELOUS! They are a true bargain and would still be so at twice the price (which, as it turns out, they almost are right now). I purchased them (apparently during a sale) at $29.99 plus $1.87 tax yielding: $29.99 + $1.87 = $31.86 / 18 = $1.77 EACH. WOW! Now as I look them up again today, the price has apparently gone (back?) up to $49.99 with no tax, which comes out to: $49.99 / 18 = $2.78 EACH. Again, WOW! Still a bargain? Yes definitely and I shall explain.
I’ve searched long and hard here researching competing products and dutifully reading the reviews. Even with some of the misgivings one always finds with product reviews, these bins seemed to be the best bet, especially given the cost per unit. They are perfect for what I destined them: organizing "stuff". Now some will say that they don't fit thus and such pair or shoes. I could care less as I only own a few pair of shoes and (accounting for the ones currently on my feet) I really don't need much room to store them. What I DO have though is a ton of "stuff" that needs organizing badly and these fill that niche IN SPADES!
They are clear so you can see at a glace what's inside.
They stack very well, so that on an average bookshelf, I could stack three rows of 2 high without crowding. I did this twice using up 12 units. The other six I grudging gave to my wife so she too could "get organized" :)
I find the size to be perfect and nearly exactly the listed dimensions of 13.6 X 8.1 X 4.4 inches.
The plastic is soft (malleable) enough so as not to be brittle, and with the lids affixed, they are actually quite stable. I PURPOSELY dropped one of the empty containers WITH its cover attached onto a lightly-carpeted, hard cement floor from a height of 5 feet with NO damage whatsoever! Of course, the lid did fall off as I expected.
They keep your "stuff" protected from the inevitable onslaught of dreaded dust.
Unlike a few of my fellow shoppers, my order arrived intact with NOT A SINGLE broken article.
When they say 18 pieces, they MEAN 18 containers PLUS 18 lids.
Cons: (Well, if I must ...)
They are economically made and value-oriented. Some would call them cheap. In my evaluation though, this is only appropriate when referring to price. Let's face it, at this price point you are NOT getting "mil-spec" quality on a "dollar-meal" budget. If that's what you want, there are certainly many higher-priced, quality items at this venue to please any discerning buyer.
To be fair, some folks would call them flimsy. I do NOT find this to be the case, but hey, at less than $3 a pop; I could live with it even if I felt that way. And, as I said above, I would use the word malleable instead of flimsy.
The price HAS risen so they are somewhat less of a bargain at $2.78 each than they were at $1.77 per, but ONLY somewhat.
They are shipped stacked inside one another in a single box with NO additional padding material. This may explain why some folks receive the occasional broken item - It all depends upon how "drop kickish" your shipper happens to be. In any case, Amazon is ALWAYS there to assist you and I suspect that the vendor would make good as well; though I did not occasion the need to test this theory.
So with all this praise, why did I only give these bins 4 stars? Two reasons:
1) The lids, though they DO fit and cover the contents, they do NOT latch or even fit tightly. You could call them "easy open" packages :) I would not go throwing them around with your stuff inside them.
2) I reserve 5 Star Reviews for items that are Top Class and exemplary in ALL regards as to quality and price. These are VERY, VERY close and I hate taking off even one star. However, in one respect this is good because for most products there is such a plethora of 5-Star Reviews (most of them saying simply: "Great product - Love it! Bye ...") that any meaningful information is often lost in the multitude. When I research a product here on Amazon (And I do research a LOT before I buy an item.), I take the overall rating into consideration and then start with the worst reviews and work my way up. Rarely do I ever need to reach the 5-Star level in my research because, by then, I have already pretty well decided. Most of the time, the most useful and helpful information can be found at the 4-Star and below level. This is especially true when the number of reviews reaches between 200 and 5000.
RUN, don't walk, to your nearest internet-connected device and push that BUY button now! Don't think about it any further; just do it. Amazon lists these as the "#1 Best Seller in Boot & Shoe Boxes". Though I cannot vouch for their suitability with footwear, I can say they make really fine organizers. I would even posit that they should SOON be the #1 Best Seller in Organizer Boxes too. They deserve to be. Snag yourself an 18-pack. If they go on sale again, grab 2 or 3 packs; you'll never run out of uses for them. A definite TOP BUY.
I bought these retail and did not receive any free samples or promotional offers. These views are my OWN opinions and your mileage may vary. I can offer no opinion pro or con as to product safety. As always, do your own research and act accordingly.
These are the perfect size for men's shoes, which is so hard to find. This is the only brand I've seen make them. I really wish Sterilite had this size.
Cons: the material is a super slippery clear plastic all around, including the cover, which makes it easy to slip and slide around and not as sturdy when stacked high. Also, the covers don't stay on as tightly as sterilite ones I have and pop off accidentally really easily.
