Sleek and beautiful litterbox! Very classy & makes cleaning litter a breeze! At first it was bigger then expected but once I put it where my old litter box was I realized it fit a lot nicer then my old litter box did which was HUGE & had a hood! It took me a second to figure out where to hook the litter scooper but I got it now :) going to buy the Petsmate brand next & see what the differences will be & what I like better!
ALSO, I HIGHLY recommend using Equine (horse) Pine Litter! $5 for a 40 pound bag....made for horses but 100% amazing for cats. Awful cat pee smell?? Can barely remember that awful thing! Cleaning my litter box has never been so amazing. I can breathe better & I know it’s better for my cats! Don’t go to Walmart & get the cat pine litter it is 100x more expensive!! Just go to tractor supply or some country store that’s similar! Or look online! Wish more people knew about this life hack! Saving money & my sense of smell! :)
Just don’t think your dumb dog won’t be able to get in somehow... he’s 85 lbs.
Previously, we had a large corner litter box for our two female cats—one is 15 pounds and the other is 12 pounds. Cats LOVE to track litter everywhere, so we have been rocking the litter mat for many years as well. Those who have used a litter mat know they aren't perfect either, as they get the job done but can be challenging to clean.
Anyway when we moved into a smaller apartment recently, I started shopping for a more tidy and attractive solution. This seemed to check all of the boxes. Other cat parents left glowing reviews about how much cleaner the process was, with litter and excrement dropping back into the magical box. Well, this was the messiest situation we have ever been in. And, our cats are some of the cleanest I've ever met.
Long story short...we ended up with cat poop all over our apartment, furniture, and bedding for a week. The final rebellion on Friday was a pee puddle on the cat litter mat (which I ended up purchasing because litter was still being tracked). This type of potty behavior has never happened before with our cats.
Though the litter box is easy on the eyes, the logistics are all wrong with this litter box. Cats must step in their own crap to exit through the top...they slip and slide to get out, then spend the rest of the day trying to get their paws clean. I was cleaning the litter box constantly to try to avoid this—not a great way to spend my time when I run my own business. At one point, I had to help our older cat with a washcloth and soap, because everything was caked onto her back foot and she was miserable.
I repurchased their standard unsightly corner litter box again. All is well again with the pusses, and with us.
I had no issue with my cat figuring out how to use it or not liking it. All I did was set it up and place it next to his existing box. Within two days he had completely transition to it on his own, clearly he prefers to do his business in a private, contained area, and he's no longer wiping his paws on the walls when he's done. I use pine pellets, which are a great fit for this box since they disintegrate with moisture and the sawdust remnants need to be shaken to the bottom. I can shake this box vigorously with no problem since it's light and completely contained. No spills, but the top is large enough for me to scoop and flush solid waste(pine litter doesn't clump and can be flushed). Really happy with this setup. Such a better option than a smelly eyesore open box for sure.

2. CAT USES IT! she's about nine years old, but despite her "mature" status, this is easy for her to get into and out of. roomy enough for her to do her business.
3. IT WORKS! the grooved cover catches most of the litter that i would otherwise be sweeping up off the floor, and the little mat i have at the base catches the rest. only seeing the odd grain here and there.
4. EASY TO CLEAN. the lid comes off easy, and i just turn it sideways, and tap it a couple of times to clear the litter grains back into the box. interestingly: i am not scraping clumps off the inner walls either. YMMV depending on your cat's habits (and litter), but this is SO much cleaner that the disgusting box she was using before.
5. other notes:
a) there are two model sizes from IRIS USA. i have the larger version with the scoop hook on the inside. definitely recommend getting the larger size, so your cat has more room.
b) NO SMELLS with Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal, FWIW. but i usually have no idea my cat has eliminated in it until i check. so for those who still smell cat poo -- could be diet, could be litter.
c) also interesting: she was ridiculously loud with her old box, i would be awoken at night from the scratching sounds — she is entirely silent with this. it's not soundproof of course, but i have no idea she's even in it.
One of the things that drew me in immediately was the idea of the ease of cleaning. We wash the litter tray out totally weekly and cleaning in the nooks and crannies of an Omega Paw was a huge and stressful job. I thought this bucket-like design would be a cinch to clean and I'm happy to say I was right! It's so much easier to just tip out all the old litter from this design, straight into a bin bag and wash it out easily in the tub like this (followed by cleaning the bathtub of course!). This is a really simple design and that means it's lightweight and easy to keep clean.
Not every cat will take to this style of tray and I was a little nervous. Ironically, my two cats who I was most concerned about immediately jumped in and loved it and the cat I wasn't worried about had me very stressed. None of my cats have ever gone outside the litter tray (with the exception of one instance when one ran a dangerously high fever and that's how I knew she was sick) and I was probably a bit overzealous trying to get my big boy to use it.
I was terrified that he was too big for the tray (the tray is very roomy, but he is a huge boy and has weight problems to boot!), but it seemed like he was more nervous about jumping in than anything else. Well, turns out cats can hold it for around two days, so my advice is just to not worry so much. By the middle of the second day he finally gave in and used it (without the lid) and we are slowly working towards adding the lid to get him used to that, once he has some adjustment time. Here's my advice to those who want their cats to adjust.
- Put this litter tray alongside your ordinary tray. Keep this one mostly clean and let the other get a little dirty, as cats love to dirty up a clean tray, since they want their scent on it. Keep an eye on your cat and see if they use it.
- If they use it, all is well and you can get rid of the other litter tray.
- If they don't, after a few days, put the other litter tray somewhere they can't get it and again observe.
- At this stage, hopefully they will use the litter tray within two days. If they don't, you will have to try other things, or just give up on the idea. If they pee on the floor and not in here it could be just not meant for them and you will have to stick to the old tray/style.
The only real negative with this tray is that you do have to scoop it more often than a style that rolls like the Omega Paw and if you have multiple cats there is less surface area compared to huge trays, so you might have to scoop more often. Due to the bucket style though, scooping is a lot more comfortable and you can easily lift it onto a shelf or surface to scoop (making sure to disinfect the surface after).
There are lots of clever designs traits at work here, some that work amazingly well (Top entry design, hooks for litter scoop, ability to hang lid, easy to clean) and one that doesn't (the lid looks cool, but my cats jump over it and still leave litter on the floor. It is easy to brush the litter that lands on top back in though.)
Overall it's a really, clever and well-designed tray that has definitely sold me on the idea of top entry trays!
The box I bought was medium in size and was bigger than I thought it would be. The hole in the top is also quite large. For a large, fully grown adult cat I would say you would need to buy the large box.
I bought the white with beige lid (cheaper) and spray painted the lid to match my decor better. The scoop that came with it was too small but I love the little hook that clips on the side to hold the scoop.
I keep it in the bathroom and use flushable litter so the box is kept very clean. I could see there being an issue if the box isn't cleaned regularly due to the lack of ventilation. I was using clay litter in this but the fumes were too strong in the box so I switched to the natural stuff.
I'm going to be purchasing a second bigger box in the near future for my growing boy.
Edit: I purchased the bigger box once my cat surpassed 7lbs as the medium was just too small. See photos for the size comparison.
Aparte no huele a NADA.
I would recommend using a litter mat below it, though. It doesn't keep all tracking in, as my cats like to jump straight out.
