Overall the box still works fine, but it will be nice if the clip is not broken.
I almost held off giving them five stars only because they're prone to cracking if mishandled (like dropped). If used for storage of anything you want safe from the elements, they're a value. If you need something you can throw in the back of a pick up - I'd recommend you look into pelican cases (of course - they're 10 times the price for a similar box and ).
These are good, sturdy plastic. A lot heavier weight than Sterlites I've gotten in the past. The lids are thicker as well, and of course they have the foam gasket, which is very nice. With all this extra attention to detail, they've skipped over 1 simple but important item - the handles. For all the heavy-duty-ness these are, the handles are attached with the common, cheap, easily-breakable tiny pegs.
It's barely bigger than a nub, which allows the handle to be easily knocked off. Just bumped it with my hand while reaching around and the handle popped off. Tried to put it back on, and can't because the little nub broke. Taking a star off for it, because it's lame.
Very glad I found these. I'm a clear-storage-box person, everything has to be stored in clear boxes - it's just way too convenient to be able to see contents, and useful because we're both getting older and neither of us wants to be hauling boxes around, rooting through them.
We're mild preppers as well, since we live in the mountains and lose electric or get snowed in fairly regularly, so we use a lot of these in all sorts of ways. On some of them I do use a Sharpie directly on them whenever I want to put an expire date for the items inside, and that works fine.
This 2-size pack was great, but I also got a 4 pack of the 44q size and those have worked well too.
I've used a LOT of different brands of clear storage containers, and these are by far the most sturdy buckets, with excellent lids. These also are the only ones I've ever seen that have a foam gasket to help with keeping crawlies and dust out. They're thicker than, any other I've gotten, so they are a tad heavier to start with, but I think that's a good thing. The lid closures are good firm snaps, and also don't pop off easy like some others do.
I'll update if any durability issues pop up, but for now I'm more than pleased with them.
I don't think so and I will tell you why. I put up a 12' length of wire shelving 2' down from the ceiling in my hobby room and had it filled with plastic boxes of various sizes from different manufactures. The boxes contained an assortment of sorted items, mostly parts, but no box was so heavy that an old man couldn't easily lift and set the box in place off a ladder.
Recently the shelf collapsed because I had unknowingly made a big mistake and used those white plastic wall clips that are sold with the shelving at the home stores. The clips actually broke off at the wall leaving the screw and a portion of the clip still in place. When the clips broke the shelf just rotated forward dumping everything to the floor. Almost every plastic box received damage (chipped, cracked or severely broken) except two boxes that contained the heaviest items and they were the two Ziploc WeatherShield Boxes. I don't know if the Ziploc is made of tougher plastic or if it was because the lids lock on so firmly creating a seal making the box more rigid that these boxes didn't break, but they were intact and the contents undamaged.
So, I learned a couple of things from the experience, after cleaning up the mess and spending an extensive amount of time resorting everything that was strewn about everywhere. My first lesson was don't use the plastic wall clips to secure your wire shelving, buy the CLOSETMAID 7556 Metal Shelf Clips for Wire Shelving from Amazon. The second lesson is use the Ziploc WeatherShield boxes because they would have been a lot cheaper in the long run, not to mention the better seal these boxes have.
