Before building my workbench I used them while putting together a 10'x10' Barn Style Storage Shed from a kit that I got from Lowe's. These things helped so much I got almost the entire project done by myself only needing help standing up the walls and decking the roof. I also used them when building several sets of shelves with the 4X4 Basics Shelf Links for my shop and storage building. And even for that these held things together for me while putting in the screws. (I used screws for almost everything that was usually done with nails) After a year of use they still work flawlessly.
I like them so much I had to order this 4 pack. Now that I got them my only complaint is that I didn't order 2 packs of them instead of just the one!Read more ›
I must admit, grudgingly, that these are pretty darn good. I use them for clamping boards to the sawhorse, holding things in place for fastening. They allow you to get the boards sucked up tight before you drive a screw. They are pretty handy and have a good amount of holding power. They are super fast to use and are easy to adjust with one hand.(useful when you are holding a board in place with the other).
Update: after almost a year I have not broken one.
Seeing these on Amazon prompted me to make the purchase. Some people may shy away from purchasing these clamps because of some plastic but these clamps are extremely sturdy should last a lifetime if treated properly.
I had seen a friend use a couple of these and they seemed pretty pleasant to use, so I figured I'd give them a try.
First, I was pretty surprised by just how well they held their grip. I thought perhaps they would be a little wimpy since they didn't involve threading, but the ratcheted design cinches down pretty securely and the ease of their release is pretty great. Definitely for a bit lighter duty, but fantastic for holding a few edges together long enough to glue/screw them more securely. I would say that for the first real project/test I put them to, they surpassed my expectations, so they get a solid 5 for that.
I'm not sure if I would need more than 4 of them in my work shop, but for light, smaller jobs, I reach for these pretty much every time over the bulkier clamps. They have an excellent niche that they fulfill quite well, so don't expect THE PERFECT CLAMP for every situation out of them, but they are REALLY good for certain situations.
Just like pretty much any specialized tool.
After several months of moderate use, I can say that these clamps have worked exactly as needed and have presented no issues at all. The trigger mechanism operates smoothly and allows you to get a lot of clamping pressure on the item. The rubber pads provide a good grip while preventing the clamped object from being marred.
The clamps are easy to both close and open one handed. There is a little trick where, when I am already holding something down with one hand and need to widen the clamp with my other hand before starting to work the trigger, I can hold down the release lever and give the clamp a little downward shake to cause the rod to open a bit.
When you press the release lever on a tightly engaged clamp, it takes a fair amount of pressure to release and there is a loud snap as clamping tension is released. I am a little concerned about how this may impact the longevity of the clamps, but after months of use, I have not noticed any denting or deformation that would be cause for concern.
