Product description

How to Use:
1. Turn on the brake fluid tester by pressing the button on top. A green light should light up. If the light does not come on, it may be time to change a battery
2. Unscrew the lid for the brake fluid reservoir, and take off the cap for the brake fluid tester
3. Dip the test probes into the brake fluid and the LED lights will indicate the percentage of water in the brake fluid
4. After testing, remember to screw the lid of the brake fluid reservoir back on tightly
5. The tester will automatically power off after 12 seconds of inactivity

What to Do:
The LED lights will indicate the percentage of water in the brake fluid:
- Green: No water
- Green/Yellow: Less than 1% of water
- Green /Yellow/Yellow: Approx.2% of water
- Green/Yellow/Yellow/Red: Approx.3% (Brake fluid should be changed)
-Green/Yellow/Yellow/Red/Red: Approx.4% (Brake fluid must be changed urgently!)

Please Note:
The ITEQ brake fluid tester is calibrated for DOT4 and DOT3 brake fluids, and DOT4 is used in most cars produced since 2006
Replace the battery if the green LED indicator no longer lights up after you press the button
Wash the test probe with tap water after every use
In case of skin contact with brake fluid, thoroughly wash the affected skin or clothing with water
Do not expose brake fluid to the atmosphere for a long time as it is highly hygroscopic

Contrary to what others have said, the brake fluid tester works just as expected. Based on comments, I tested it with new brake fluid, brake fluid recently changed, and brake fluid that was 2 1/2 years old (6 months overdue). The new stuff showed 0% moisture, the recently changed showed in the green (1%), and the 2 1/2 year old fluid was full-out red (>4%). I changed the old stuff the next day using Pentosin Super DOT 4 and the new reading was (0%). Lastly, because the instructions say to rinse the probes with water afterwards, I checked it with straight water and it read >4%. I have no reason to believe this is inaccurate or malfunctioning.

I purchased 4 of these for my shop, wanted to try them out before we actually started using them to test customers brake fluid. Used all 4 to test NEW UNOPENED DOT 3 brake fluid and it failed, Stated 3% moisture content, I thought maybe it was a fluke, grabbed a different container of NEW DOT 3, pealed off the seal and tested, It showed 3% moisture still. These either do not work on DOT 3 or these just plain flat out are junk.

This brake fluid tester gave TOO many false readings. I do believe my brake fluid needed to be changed because it was dirty and my vehicle is previously owned. I was very surprised that the brake fluid liquid tester showed the fluid was "OK" (in the yellow) and then it showed it needed to be changed (in the red). Please check out the dates and times of the provided pictures. Also, pay attention to the color of the fluid in the reservoir because I took it to mechanic to get the brake fluid changed so you will see the difference of the color of the brake fluid.

I am returning the device and I recommend others read the one star reviews. One reviewer stated it gave false readings and the seller said he needed to show the false readings. Well, I am showing them and I want to see the seller's response.

My car uses DOT 3 brake fluid, the tester I purchased was advertised as being for both DOT3 and DOT4 Brake fluids, the product I received stated right on the package that it would work to test DOT4 brake fluid and no mention anywhere on it that it may also work on DOT3 fluid... and the purchased package also had a blister pop up for a AAA battery To run it which was empty, and the package again stated a AAA battery is included... even though the ad stated battery NOT included, its rather tacky to leave the wrong info on the package for customers to see

Ok. So I tested the product against brand new fluid, 1 year old fluid and 3 year old fluid. The device has shown the light accordingly with <0% for new, <1% for year old fluid and <2% for 3 year old. That being said, I noticed that the tester does not work if you dip it past the two metal prongs and the liquid touches the plastic. It seems like it grounds out or shorts the impedance of the metal gap throwing off the reading. So.... Make sure only the metal prongs touch the fluid for an accurate reading.

This is the second one I bought due to the way it works I thought the first one was defective but it wasn't. If there is no water detected in brake fluid, only the first green light (that is also the on button) lights up. The less than 1 percent water light will not come up when the brake fluid contains no water. I tested it by pouring brake fluid and a bit of water in a shot glass it shot up to 4% so the device does work.

I just bought two...to compare in case I suspect a faulty reading. I have compared my two testers with a third from a friend. All the same units. His is a year old and works fine, just as described. Mine do not....WHY? The accuracy is the same but my two testers seem to be flaky. Here is where some people claim the tester shows a brand new bottle of fluid is bad. It's probably NOT. What is happening is that my two units "hold" their last reading for some reason. Say you tested your fluid and it's bad. Then you test new clean fluid and it tests bad also. Actually, it's displaying the first reading. The tester did not reset to zero. Once it shows a bad reading, It shows that LED count no matter what you test. The FIX. The circuit board needs to be reset. Pull the battery to reset the circuit board, then re-test. Do this every time and you should get accurate readings. Not Ideal, I know, but at least now you know the readings will be correct. If this "Fix" does not work for you, there is more wrong with this unit and it may need to be returned. I have just sent a query to the seller to address this issue. Hopefully, a fix is already on the way.

A great tool to let you know when to change the break fluid. We should change break fluid when it has brunt ordor, the color is no longer transparent or the fluid is at a lower level. There is no set time to change break fluid, so this tester is kinda useful. But, I find it a little expensive because the material of this tester is cheap plastic. Otherwise, it is a good one.
