I had been buying Royal Canin urinary so dry cat food for ten years. My 12 yo was blocked when he was 2 and he could've died. It was very scary and expensive. Since then they had me buying the Royal Canin prescription dry cat food. The price kept going up and up. I think the last 17 lb bag I bought was almost $70. Crazy. i started comparing ingredients. The "magic" ingredient in the urinary foods is DL Methionine. Has something to do with keeping the urine ph at a level that it needs to be so the cats don't get blocked or crystals. The Royal Canin food has a lot of junk ingredients and I just read they have a new formula for the so food. In the new formula the DL Methionin is the 30th ingredient. In the old Royal Canin formula, the DL Methionin was the 19th ingredient. That's not a good change..... In this Iams formula, the DL Methionin is the 18th ingredient (if I counted correctly). The Iams has some decent ingredients and some crap ingredients. I thought it was worth a try to switch the dry food. I also feed wet food in gravy and broths to my cats as I'm paranoid and want to get enough liquid in their diet, which I think is probably a lot more important than giving them dry food at all, but we give dry food because it's convenient. The cats like the food and my cats can be pretty finicky and no one has gotten sick from me switching the food. I tried to do the gradual switch over but i was very low on the royal canin when i decided to switch. Fingers crossed my kitties won't have any urinary issues. If you need a urinary dry cat food, I think this is a decent choice.
Update: three years later and all good. Still feeding this food and no urinary issues. If your cat needs special urinary food, ask your vet about this one.

Elbie, a well-aged cat of about 13, developed trouble with foods she hadn't had issue with before, beginning with her usual brand and including same-brand and other varieties. She had begun to get scrawny; however, we're able to feed this one in regular recommended quantities without splitting more than twice per day to keep her from vomiting. She's ravenous about this food, wants more when she's done but we keep to the suggested measurements for her weight, and our judgement--where the other foods were failing her, now she's able to put on weight again with Iams Proactive Health Urinary Tract Formula.
