A regal name in distortion pedals, the Tube King returns to the Ibanez lineup. While the name and purpose of the Ibanez distortion pedal is the same as the original '90s models, this version of Tube King, the TK999HT, differs from its two predecessors in that it features internal high voltage DC circuitry instead of previous "starved plate" low voltage circuitry. Ibanez says that makes a significant difference.

It's easy to tell why so many give this thing good reviews (other sites). It's very heavy/solid and large too; about 8 X 8 (3-4 inches thick too). It's a substantial looking/feeling - nothing cheap about it. The tube window is cool and it glows letting you know warmth is on moments after you plug it in. I'm a bed-room warrier player, and this pedal has it's place in my collection. I will agree with others that it's a noisy pedal, unless you use the noisegate. The noisegate works well, but I'd prefer to not use it, as it takes away from response a bit. If your looking for an affordable way to beef up your tone on your solid state amp, or your clean tube channel, give this thing a whirl. 4.2 stars.
Only function I'm not crazy about is the void. I never use it. It's supposed to give definition to palm mutes and other instances where you need silence in between quick notes/chords, but it sounds too digital and artificial.
I've dropped this thing, and nothing internal was damaged from what I can tell. It barely dinged the side of the pedal, and took off a small piece of the red paint. I've put hundreds of hours on this pedal and the tube is still running strong.
Summary: 5-star pedal once you get rid of the crappy chinese 12AX7 tubes that it comes with.
This pedal made me sell my Mesa Boogie DC-3 once I realized how crappy the Boogie distortion was compared with it, for the same kind of distortion/overdrive sounds (and I put good tubes in the Boogie as well, but it still didn't sound as good).
My advice is to just save the money and get a tube amp if you are looking for a quality tonal range.
The only good thing I have to say is its definitely bullet proof in case construction.
