Content includes kidnapping and one torture scene. There’s lots of sex—some of it good, some of it repetitive, some of it boring. M/F, M/M/F, and M/M. It’s hinted that Dominic (“Dom”) is the sub to Nathan’s dom, but there isn’t any BDSM; Nathan’s just a centuries-older dragon shifter who leads the clan.
Some good relationship building moments and arguments. The flying dragons celebration was interesting.
The I’m-not-sure-if-I’m-gay-or-bi-and-I-don’t-like-labels moments feel fake, with clunky thoughts and dialogue. It feels like it was written by a straight woman for straight women, without researching M/M relationships. No typos jumped out at me, but there was one weird grammar moment that sticks with me: “ . . . with he and [name].”
I haven’t watched much Mixed Martial Arts (MMA); the minimal details provided seemed believable for this type of fantasy romance, but the two or three very brief references to Ice’s online editing job were worthless filler, one example of several points where it reads like the author thought, “Oh, yeah, I have to give her a job, and by the way, these few things happened.”
The sections with villains and mortal danger are shorter and later in the book, the villains one-dimensional, though they do some pretty evil things.
The last few chapters are generic and boring, but could have been made into a powerful, shorter Epilogue. Throughout the book, the messages about sexism and honoring both tradition and personal choice are clunky.
Ice sets up for a potential series following other dragon shifters who either don’t know they’re dragon shifters or are in hiding. The premise is similar to, but better written than, Sara Humpreys' Amoveo series about various kinds of shifters in the Amoveo race.
It was a diversion for a few hours, but I don’t plan on re-reading Ice.
After a couple incidences with fire, Ice became a fighter to control her "weirdness", she's a latent dragon shifter who does not know it.
Nathan (leader of his dragon clan) came to town to check his clan's finances and ends up at a MMA event where he sees and smells Ice (Claire) for the first time and he knows she is his mate, the one female to complete the triad with Dominic, his other mate. Nathan calls Dominic to tell him to get to town asap and help him get their mate home. Upon meeting Nathan and Dominic, Ice is extremely attracted to both and when they invite her back to their hotel room, she figures that it's a one night thing and agrees to accompany them. Why not have some fun! After an amazing night with the two gorgeous men, one of them makes a comment about human men that Ice picks up on and questions him. He does not want to lie to her so he starts to tell her about them and her not being completely human. Of course, she does not receive the information well and immediately leaves. It goes against their nature to leave her unprotected even though she can protect herself. The guys end up going to her apartment to talk to her and explain what they meant. After much discussion back and forth, she agrees to go home with them to at least learn how to control her special gifts and maybe figure out why she is so attracted to them.
This is where is gets good! There is suspense, action, hot dragon romance between two alpha males and their alpha female, betrayal, and secrets revealed. There is m/m/f, m/f, m/m, m/f/m romance. Normally, I'm not into m/m romance but she has done a wonderful job of it with this book. I do wish that the story was a little longer.
This has the potential to be an awesome series if done right and I hope Skye Jones does it correctly!! I'm looking forward to see where she goes with this series. Her books that I have read so far, I've greatly enjoyed!
I recommend this book!
I recieved a free copy that I volunteered to read for my honest opinion.
When she meets Nathaniel and Dominic she feels a very strong attraction to the 2 dominant handsome males, but is confused because she has always been so particular about having submissive men when needed in her life, to avoid her wildfire emotions to take control. Especially when they give her such an outlandish fact about themselves, but especially about herself.
Nathaniel and Dominic have been mated dragons never physical, but always searching for their female to compliment their Triad. When Nathaniel sees Fire in the ring he is fascinated by her beauty, but when he meets her face to face there is no doubt that she is what he has been searching for for centuries. Now he must convince the very independent, skittish beauty that she is one of them and not a freak and that what she feels for them is normal in their world which she never knew existed.
Will these dominant males be able to turn Fire back into Claire?
