I bought the cognac/black striped leggings, which looks like almost-black striped against black. It's very attractive, not at all halloween-y. But anyway, you're probably buying Icebreakers because it's freezing out, so these things will be covered by other pant layers. I wear them under my jeans with some knee high wool socks, and I'm totally fine. Any other legging, even fleece-lined ones, I got some "frostnip" with in this weather, which is very painful. This pair was pricier than even the jeans that I own, but it was well worth it.
They are not scratchy, but also not "silky" smooth the way a cotton or spandex legging would be. There is not much stretch, and as others have noted, the waist band hits either just below the belly button. For your reference, I am 5'2", 108lb, 24" waist and 36" hip. The waist band is very comfortable. I think because my hips are pretty big, plus the lack of spandex-style stretch, the back waistband dips a little low when I sit. No crack shows, but it's close. It isn't scratchy at all.
I highly recommend these leggings, and will be buying more pairs to alternate with throughout the winter weeks.
At 5'10" I usually have to buy tall sized pants, and these come about an inch above my ankles.
For me, they got a little loose after the first wear, but they always snap back when I wash them. They pilled, but I never wear them alone, so it doesn't matter.
I wear them under my harem pants (basically negative warmth) in 30 degree weather, and I'm fine.
the old days of thermal underwear, this is the best you can buy
this particular cut is extremely tight fitting
they look more like tights you wear to the gym,, to each is own but I like the every day ones for every day,, I suppose these would be good for people who wear really tight clothes
