I did a little test with multiple manufacturers; Icebreaker, Smartwool, First Light, Kuiu and another I cannot think of right this minute. The Icebreaker has the best fabric and feel, the tightest weave. It holds its shape a little better than the others but wool is not as good at forming to your body and returning to its perfect shape as the synthetic boxers of course.
I do like the performance of all of the wool boxers mentioned...they are all pretty good with Icebreaker best, Smartwool a close second and the rest pretty close behind. I wore these for 4 straight days in the mountains of Montana hiking and wearing them around the clock and they just don't get as smelly as the synthetics which smell after one day. [Baby wipes help!]
Very comfortable and they wick sweat pretty good....but dry a little slower than synthetic.
Icebreaker is tops. Now the lifespan of these is less than synthetic.....about 1/3rd or so. ....maybe more but i'm pretty hard on them.
