I thought it was a little predictable in the outcome and that's why I gave it just a three but it was clean and did move along..if you just want to relax with a lowkeyed book to unwind with this would be the book to do that with

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Loved the characters and the interaction within the family. A good clean story with action, joy, sorrow and love. I'm ready to start reading another one of Tracie's books as soon as I hit submit.

This was such a fun read! I enjoyed every single page. The characters were so relatable. It was such an encouragement to me that though this is fiction, the message was real. The truth will always win out.

Although the storyline was a bit predictable. I enjoyed it. The characters were likeable and once I had time to actually devote to reading, it was a very easy story to get into. I would recommend to others to read.

Tracie Peterson has woven another wonderful story in The Icecutter's Daughter. The characters were well developed and the reader can't help but be captivated by their stories. The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me turning pages with anticipation. I highly recommend this book.

My husband's father was an ice cutter and I didn't know all that went into that profession so I was really pleased to learn. Wood working was one of my cherished hobbies and enjoyed her description of good skill habits.

How I loved learning of beautiful traditions of the Germans and the Swedes through the sweet love story of Merrill and Ruric. It's a story of waiting for God's plan rather than making our own way, since He alone, knows what is truly good.

Set in Minnesota close to the end of the nineteenth century, "The Icecutter's Daughter" is the first book in author Tracie Peterson's "Land of Shining Water" series. I loved the heroine of this story, Merrill Krause, who is strong, caring, hard-working, and feminine in her own way. Merrill became the "woman of the house" at ten years old when she promised her dying mother that she would care for her father and all her brothers. An excellent cook and housekeeper, Merrill inherited her mother's beauty and artistic flair. However, Merrill works just as hard as the male members of her family, toiling alongside them in the family icecutting business. She enjoys the physical labor, most especially working with the big work horses with whom she has a special bond. Rurik Jorgenson, the nephew of the Krause's family friend, Carl Jorgenson, arrives from Kansas to help his uncle, who is in failing health. Before leaving his home, Rurik's arranged engagement to young Svea Olsson had ended badly, causing hard feelings with Svea's brother Nils, who was Rurik's longtime friend. Working for his uncle in his furniture business is a pleasure for Rurik, made even more enjoyable each time Merrill comes to visit and bring delicious baked goods. Rurik is drawn to Merrill's unpretentious strength and kindness, and she is taken by his admirable work ethic and his respect and affection for his uncle. When Rurik discover's Merrill's artistic talent, he encourages her to join the furniture business adding her painted designs to specialty items. When Svea and her brother arrive unexpectedly from Kansas, they bring trouble with them, and soon Rurik's life is laden with unwelcome complications. Svea tries everything in her power to force Rurik to marry her, and Nils supports her efforts. A scandal ensues, and the consequences could ruin not only Rurik's reputation and livelihood, but also bring to an end his hopes of a future with Merrill. Almost twenty-one years old, Merrill had spent her life putting her father and brothers first, with her own dreams being pushed aside. Rurik is the only man she's ever met with whom she wants to share her heart, but can she trust him with her life and her love? Will they both have the faith and the fortitude to survive their time of tribulations? Tracie Peterson is one of my favorite storytellers, and with each book of hers that I read, my admiration grows for her skill in combining history and romance with inspiring faith.

I loved this book. Enjoyed the storyline, learned about ice cutting, where it went & why..just a sidebar, but a great one.
I enjoyed Rurik & Merrill & their individual stories before their together story. I liked Uncle Carl, everyone should have one; and Granny, everyone should have one like her as well.

Christian belief and examples of good people living their faith everyday. Even some Christian "in name only" living their faith as they knew it as well. Just like today..life really wasn't all that simple as we would like to believe.

Read....& ENJOY!!

I'm getting my Tracie Peterson fix! I just finished a book by her recently and was glad to find out that I didn't have to say goodbye to her books for long.

Part of the Land of Shining Water series, I got to learn about icecutting. I can honestly say that I knew nothing about it and enjoyed learning about it. I can only imagine how fascinating it was to research for this book. I found myself anxiously awaiting evening when I could curl up and dive into this book for long periods at a time.

The parts that stuck out to me were how devoted both Rurik and Merrill were to their families. You don't see that too often these days. I think that helped me like this book even more because it's what I hope my family one day becomes!

When Rurik's ex-fiancé comes back on the scene, I couldn't help but cringe and hope that Merrill wouldn't believe anything she said. I wanted Rurik and Merrill to be together and didn't want his ex to mess anything up with them.

I think the next book comes out later in the fall, which I know I'll be reading. I love the things I'm learning through these fiction books. The historical settings and their occupations are all so interesting to me.

I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
