Editorial Reviews
In the studio again for HighNote, George Cables takes a lifetime of experience and distills it into an unhackneyed program of originals, standards and not-so-standards that pays tribute to those artists whose talent, personality and in some cases genius have left their indelible marks on George Cables the man and the musician.

George Cables is a top-flight player, and has proved it on many recordings with some of the all-time greats of jazz. This wonderful trio album shows what he can do in the company of two like-minded and highly skilled musicians. The tunes flow easily from one mood to another, they swing, and wonderfully evoke those to whom the tunes are dedicated. A highlight for me is the lovely Bill Evans tune, "Very Early." Not at all imitative, and wonderfully nuanced.
Thank you, Mr. Cables. Long may you play. This review is completely subjective and is based only on my opinion and taste.

This is lovely music. It swings - delicately and with consistent grace. It is melodic and inventive. I know some reviewers say it is background music but it is more than that. I tend to favor later life contributions from jazz pianists such as Cables and Ahmad Jamal. They are distilling a lifetime's experience and practice into their art. No wasted notes or unnecessary swagger.

Fantastic pianist and really great arrangements--somewhere between strait ahead and modern jazz. Makes a nice gift for any jazz lover.

Great Album from an Experienced Musician!
Reviewed in Canada on June 7, 2017Verified Purchase
Nice piano trio with a natural sound balance. The piano sounds just wonderful - clean, pure and mesmerizing. What a joy! As mentioned in other reviews, Cables floats through familiar melodies but with some nice jazz variations. It is addictively interesting as a listening experience. The rhythms and tempos are mainstream, even toe tapping on certain tracks. This isn't the album to get if you want challenging stuff, but it's great on my home system and I think it's happy themes will be welcomed in the car also. Don't pass this one by.
