This bulb seems to be well built. I placed it into a floor lamp designed for incandescent bulb, in which I had removed the typical large-diameter globe so that the air could readily circulate upward past the LED bulb cooling fins. This seemed to work well, as the bulb runs fairly cool, after being on for a few hours at full power.
The reason I am only giving this bulb 3 stars is due to its price (well over $150) vs claimed suitability for floor lamp applications and claimed 320 watt equivalent light output. The light output angle of this bulb is very narrow, with a 6' floor lamp height resulting is about a 6" diameter bright spot on the ceiling. As such, it is non-diffuse and acts as a point source, casting shadows on the walls. To attempt to rectify this, I purchased a Halo 5054PS 5" light fixture with hemispherical diffuser, and placed the diffuser atop the LED array in this bulb. This increased the diameter of the bright spot on the ceiling from 6" to about 2'. Much better, but still not as good as the original floor lamp, and shadows are still visible. Further, the light output appears to be lower, as the room seems to be dimmer than with the original 150W halogen-tube floor lamp.
I am keeping this bulb but am not buying any more, nor recommending it for floor lamp in rooms with < 12' ceilings.
First pay close attention to the degree angle that the bulb states. The lower the angle number the narrower the beam. These lights are tight. Meaning the are focused beams, think laser and you will get the point. Me while I have a 45 degree angle Ideal LED I would not purchase that one again as it is very narrow and there is no real spill over outside the focused beam. What that means is outside of beam is darkness. So my suggestion is nothing less than a 90 degree.
Second is the color choice. If you like the warmness of a incandescent light then go very warm in your color choice. The white is white hot and will be harsh to many. You would use this when you want colors to scream without any alterations in the color of fabrics etc. I use these in the closet area. Note if you use it in your bathroom or makeup mirror you won't look very awesome even if you look very awesome in natural light. For the most part stay away from the white light spectrum that gives off the walmart lighting look. Ideal LED warm lights give a wonderful glow.
Note the higher the light output the larger the bulb. The heat dissipation / heat sinking fins are large to keep them cool. Cool LED light bulbs last longer like any electronic device. Heat is the enemy.
These suggestions will help when you are purchasing.
This particular bulb I have in white 120 degree in my closet. Very bright white hot light. This is a very large build designed for torchiere lamps that the bulb fires toward your ceiling. I am using it in the opposite direction with good results. Note this sucker is very bright. I come out of my closet and sometimes feel like I was walking on the sun. But I can now find anything in my closet. I can locate that hiding shirt... You know the one.
