My new headlamp enclosures are sealed by heat--they have a butyl rubber seal that is applied hot- and when it cools it leaves the lens and reflective part glued together with a waterproof, flexible seal. The HID's got so hot that one day I was at the gasoline station and was washing my windows--I washed the headlamps because they had bugs- and the LENS PART ACTUALLY CAME LOOSE--from the heat of those HIDs. That was crazy. I had to replace them.
SO- I was offered these at discounted price in exchange for review and I was very reluctant to do so- because my halogen bulbs worked "OK", and I knew the HID bulbs were not an option in my car. I decided try these and WOW. These are awesome. They are super bright, and are not hot.
WHAT IS SO GREAT---
1- THEY ARE NOT HOT
2- MUCH BRIGHTER THAN STANDARD HEADLAMPS
3- BRIGHT, WHITE LIGHT
4- AS BRIGHT AS HID WITHOUT THE INCREDIBLE HEAT
5- EASY TO INSTALL
To install, you remove your old bulb and plug these in. The HID's had ballasts, and all kinds of special wiring and mounting requirements due to the heat and amperage required to operate them. These plug in just like your normal headlamps. Nothing special.
1- REMOVE OLD BULB
2- PUT THIS ONE IN ITS PLACE
THERE ARE NO additional ballasts or wiring requirements for these bulbs. They are so bright, and its a white light. They do not get hot like even normal headlamps do, and definitely nothing like the HID's do.
These use very little battery power- and do not drain your battery like normal headlamps do. These are so amazing, I could go on and on.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE for anyone--especially for older cars that use standard halogen bulbs. You will be in for a huge surprise--you will love them.
Installation is very easy but on my car the plug did have to be turned around so it does not clip into place properly. I've seen this happen with many HID kits as well so it was not a shock but it should be noted.
As I stated in the video my only real concern relates to the LED in the event the cooling fans fail.
No errors thrown, always good that the car doesn't complain as this is sometimes the case with LED lighting.
Seeing as these offer less distance than my HID kit I doubt I will run these myself. I do know hundreds of others with the same car that would like to upgrade from stock to LED (or HID) so I am sure they'll find a home next month when I spend time with around 100-150 or so of these friends.
I'd say these are a great choice compared to stock but if you have a HID setup you're probably not going to want to make the change to LED but it's personal preference. I don't know what actual output they offer but they look great and they are brighter than the HID when looking AT the car...from inside the HID projects further making them more useful. (Best I can tell they are both dialed in pretty level and in person they both reach a lot further than the camera can detect but you still see a substantial difference in distance of light coverage between them).
For reference the car used is a 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth.
