These are solar lights for less than $2 a piece. You couldn't buy the solar cell, battery and LED's for that, let alone put together. That is a amazing.
The kit comes with everything you need. They even come with 16 holders so you can double their height if you wish. I might suggest that the first time you use them, throw the batteries into a nicad charger. That way you can really see how well they work and give them a fair review on how well they charge over an entire day of sunlight.
I'm glad I bought these.
I bought 2 of these packages for a total of 16 lamps. I needed some lights that were much taller, and some that were much shorter. Each light comes with a spike and 2 sets of leg sections. I cannibalized one set raiding the 2nd leg from a whole set. Now I have 8 that are VERY tall and 8 that are short n stubby. I used the 8 stubbies on the 4 corners of two of my raised garden beds. The other 8 taller accent lights provide the perfect light for an herb bed alongside the garage and another few decorate an area of our back yard.
I wanted very inexpensive lights due to a few high drive European ancestry working dogs, these fill the bill perfectly. And so far the dogs have left the accent lights alone. Win-Win :-)
1) The batteries die and replacement rechargeable batteries cost more than new light set.
2) The plastic becomes brittle in the sun after about 6-9 months and components crack if hit.
3) Some ended up not being waterproof, but still worked when the clear part was filled with rain.
1) Make sure you peel off the protective film that's on the solar cell.
2) Make sure you click 'on' under the lid when you first get them and 'off' if you are storing them.
3) Don't put them where they will get bumped. Dog leash crashing into them was the #1 reason some of mine broke.
Am I buying more? Yes, the price is cheap enough that it balances out the cons of you will need to replace in a year or two due to becoming brittle in the sun or batteries dying.
As long as they get at least half a day of Sunlight you'll be okay with lighting duration in the evening.
The only problem I find is that the bulb itself goes cock-eyed in two of the 16 lights (or it appears to be a manufacturing flaw) and those two lights failed. I saved the parts for replacement in case a light housing gets damaged. I have dropped them, tripped them with the garden hose, kicked them (after forgetting to look down after installation) and basically abused them so far.
The 14 lights that work of the 16 total do a great job. I cannot find a suitable comparison for the price and quanitity. They are disposable if they fail and cheap to buy another box of eight. You can light up the outside of your house and make it safe to walk at night with these lights. Make sure they get reasonable Sunlight [through at least half the day] to assure illumination into the Evening.
You can move the lights around to find the best Solar Source over the course of time.
Have fun with it.
Good Luck folks.
The 16 lights total (2 sets)
Made sure light switch was off for each one.
Set each one in sunlight for the required 24 hours direct sunlight before switching on.
Switched in and immediately 3 did not work.
Started a return with Amazon, break em all down and repackage a kit of 8, a while kit has to be returned.
Did the paper work for return shipping and had to take to a UPS drop box.
Next night remaining lights were all on and looked pretty good!
Then it stated to rain, 5 of the remaining 16 lights stopped working early into the evening!!
Pulled them all up and repackaged them.
I am returning them all.
Very poor product and the quality is terrible.
I do not know of a better product seems solar lights are plagued with poor performance.
I suggest you do not purchase these.
