Casey leaves the house where her best friend Chris has been murdered. She is covered in his blood and has the murder weapon. Would anyone believe that she didn’t do it? Since they were looking into her father’s murder and Casey thinks she knows who murdered her father who was a police detective. Dylan is a former army investigator who is hired by Chris’s family to find Casey who is wanted for questioning in their son’s murder. As Dylan proceeds in the investigation he starts to doubt Casey’s guilt. Then he comes across another death with Casey miles away. Will he be able to save her? Who killed her father?
I really enjoyed this novel! The pacing is excellent! This author knows how to keep her audience engrossed in the novel. This is the first novel in the If I Run series. So much of this novel is world building so you understand the situation. It is also the first novel in the series. It is not my favorite part but it has a purpose! Great characters! Awesome plot! I can’t wait to tackle more of the series!
The thing that really disappointed me about the book was that it ended on a cliffhanger. If I had expected that, it might have changed how I felt about it, but since I didn't expect it, it left me feeling annoyed that the story was incomplete when I came to the end of the book.
I actually feel that the story would have been stronger if it had been written as a standalone rather than a drawn out series. I found myself thinking several times while reading that the pacing was too slow in some areas and the characters too underdeveloped. While Casey and Dylan are likeable, they don't meet until the end of the book and even then, only briefly. There was no relationship development between them at all. I kept wishing that Casey would find someone to connect with who could help her and was frustrated that she didn't.
Overall, the pacing was a bit slow, the characters and relationships between them could have been more deeply developed, and the story really needed another good guy. Because of these things and the cliffhanger, my rating for this one is a bit low, though I do plan to give the series another chance with the second book.
I would encourage anyone who is on the fence about purchasing this book to wait until Book 2 comes out in 2017 and read the books back to back.
BADLY DONE ZONDERVAN! VERY BADLY DONE!
Is there a God? And if there is a God how can He allow such injustices to happen? As Casey is on the run she takes us into a deeper journey from right and wrong to what would you do? High praise for this amazing series… I can't wait to delve into book 2 "If I'm Found" for more of Casey's story.
