The romance started a but slowly, with not meeting the hero until the third chapter, but I was so engaged in Annoras story I didn't mind, and the couple didnt miss that time at all. This book had all of my favorite elements--the western frontier, a couple thrown together in less than ideal circumstances, and a catty woman to add some drama. Most if all, a strong element of faith. A sweet story, more than worth your money and time.
This is a delightful story. She may be young but her strength of character and steady faith are what draw Luke out of his backslidden state and eventually into love. This book is easily read in an afternoon, the Christian thread is strong. The story may be 'feel good formula', but it works. It accomplished what it set out to do, make me think about life in Christ through good times and bad, and end with a satisfied smile. The editing was well done and I always appreciate that. I liked it enough that it is going into my reread collection.
If the Prospect Pleases by Sally Laity with a bonus story The Mountains Son by Gloria Brandt.
I loved both stories. They show faith, love and hope. They showed courage, family, weakness, and forgiveness. I loved both of these stories about the same. So here goes.
If The Prospect Pleases by Sally Laity
The story starts out in Philadelphia 1875. Annora becomes a orphan when both of her parents fall victim to typhoid. She has no other family, so the preacher and his wife let her live with them. When stuff start to go missing, and stuff gets ruined they blame it on Annora. Not their daughter Mirah. (She reminded me of Nellie on Little House on the Prairie) Annora sees a bulletin in church advertising a man needs a housekeeper and someone to take care of his 2 girls. If the prospect please it could lea to marriage. In comes Lucas. He is a widower with 2 girls and his younger brother lives with him. He needs help around the house and posts a bulletin. Annora travels to Wyoming. Lucas doesn't know her or know that hse is coming. She arrives on his ranch and he looks at her as if she is just another (Little) girl. He gives her a 3 months trail period. To see if he can accomplish her job. I loved this story. I love the characters. I felt for Amy and Melinda. I will have to look into other books available by Sally Laity.
The Mountains Son by Gloria Brandt
Lydia Bennett is traveling to the Wyoming territory with her family to open a new mercantile. We meet caleb who seems like the lady's man and all around cowboy bachelor who is 30. He isn't planning on getting married.Lydia is a daddy's girl. who likes to be outside. Lydia's parents want her to marry the town banker instead of a drifter. Caleb want's to know more about the red head beauty.
This book has Danger, Action, Heartache, and Love. I loved how Caleb was always the protector. What happens when Caleb gets accused of something he didn't do and loose everything?
I loved the characters from both books. I love how they came to pray when stuff go to big to handle. I love the relationship of Lydia and her Father.
Thanks again to NetGalley and the Publisher of letting me read If the Prospect Pleases and review it. This is my honest review.
