In this 20-minute documentary, doctors in three North American cities give us a glimpse into the lives of their refugee patients. The stories told here by the doctors -- and by the refugees themselves -- shed new light on the immigrant experience. These are stories of resilience in the face of great obstacles such as war, persecution and long, harrowing journeys.
While this DVD will be enriching for the casual viewer, it also makes a great learning tool. IF WE KNEW THEIR STORIES is found in the curriculum of medical schools, residency programs and nursing schools. But the DVD's usefulness goes beyond the education of health care professionals; it can be used in outreach and training programs for anyone who encounters refugees and immigrants in the workplace or in daily life.
IF WE KNEW THEIR STORIES is the first film created as part of the Medicine Box Project," a series of documentaries focusing on refugees and their experiences with the American health care system. The film is produced by Free Country Media and directed by Chris Newberry.
