Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book was co-narrated by Todd Haberkorn (Jace) and Chris Dukehart (Alexa). Both did an outstanding job as the characters. . . . Both were very good narrators and easy to listen to." ---Books, Coffee & Wine --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

About the Author

I'm a twenty something book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and am married to my best friend! We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats. I've been reading since I was a kid. My mom was a librarian, so it was a given. Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn't get Jace and Lexi out of my head. If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter. I LOVE to hear from readers, so please feel free to contact via any social media site listed below.

Alexa Sullivan has return to her home town after 10 years for a big high school reunion. It is not Alexa's reunion-her older sister has asked her to come along to babysit her child while she attends the reunion. Alexa's husband passed away and she is still feeling lost and depressed and is willing to experience a change of scenery for awhile.

Alexa is surprised to find out that her old high school best friend and love of her life is also going to be in attendance at the reunion, Jace McAllister. Alexa and Jace were BFF's in high school and had lots of chemistry, but little opportunity.

This book is about reuniting the two high school 'almost' sweethearts and how they bring their relationship from estranged friends, to loving couple.

Jace is travels to Afghanistan a lot on tours because he is a defuses bombs for the military. He joined right after high school and has been with the military since then. So Alexa and Jace have to work out details of their past and how they can work out their future since he works in such a dangerous job, that also take him away for long periods of time.

This book has it's HEA with no cliffhanger. It also has A LOT of sex scenes.

What did I like about this book?
- The characters seem like they truly love each other (or at least have a ton of chemistry)and you want to see them together. It's nice to see them happy at the end. So happy - cut ending.
- There isn't the silly and long dragged out misunderstanding, nor huge angst (some, but not huge), no super evil villains, no crazy plot twists that make you want to scream
- HEA, no cliffhanger, no series that i had to read in order
- Steamy sex scenes
- AVA AVA AVA - the daughter...laughed out loud, she is so friggin' funny.

The story was compelling that was why I bought the book. Ultimately, I found the writing to be too repetitive and written with minute detail which really was not necessary. Detail about every movement and every word of conversation I did not care to know and left nothing to the imagination. So much so that the weekend reunion felt like a month. The main character’s sister was annoying and cringe-worthy. Spoiler: Really do you talk out loud about how many times you “did it” on a plane!

You would think with a title like "Ignite" and an opening sentence of "I f*ing hate you sometimes" that this would be a book you couldn't put down but alas... There was nothing wrong with the story per se or the writing but this was one of the most bland books I've read in a long time. There was absolutely no spark to any of the characters and I felt no connection to them at all. They were the most boring, sedate, blah characters I've read about in I don't know how long. Even the sex scenes were so humdrum that after the 3rd or 4th one I was just "swipeswipeswipeswipe", trying to get through them. With all the drama they had had in their lives you would have thought Alexa and Jace would have been more lively but it just never happened. I don't think I can take the next book in this series!

I ended up having to speed read Ignite because I found it to be a very boring and predictable read. The characters were underdeveloped, and the dialogue was completely unbelievable.

Jase is a too-good-to-be-true hero (frankly emasculating him as a result) who folds into all cliches including singing while he slow dances with his girlfriend on the beach, to social media stalking her over the years, to daydreaming when Lexi is tucking in her niece that he was playing imaginary family with the three of them, to his looking forward to taking Lexi to his class reunion so he can dance with her. Really?! This is a bomb diffusing career military man. He did not speak as one, and gushed like a teenage girl for most of the book.

Ignite manages to pack in just about every romance book cliche including lines like "I won't bite. Until you ask me to." to "Like what you see?" There are endless sappy letters and droning conversations about love and longing between the hero and heroine. Beyond the dialogue being full of cliches and dragging on, Jace and Lexi are written in a very wholesome and juvenile way. I also found it perplexing how Lexi's 52 year old parents are written as if they are 72.

I wish I had my time back that I sank into this book.

Ignite was a story of second chances, rekindling love, and loss. I truly enjoyed reading it and had a kick with the secondary characters.

Jace McAllister. Ugh this man was dreamy and pure lust. I’d climb him like a tree if I could. He played baseball in High School where he meets Alexa his sophomore year and they become best friends. On his senior year Jace is about to go off to join the Army and he finally decides that it’s time to declare his feelings to Alexa. In my opinion it was just really bad timing and in that moment it wasn’t meant to be. Fast forward 10 years, it’s his high school reunion and fate puts Alexa back in his path.

Alexa Sullivan. She is the girl who loves sports and you’d always find her watching the High School baseball games. She had a crush on Jace from the very first moment she laid eyes on him and soon they become best friends, spending a lot of time together. The sad part was that everyone who knew them could see the feelings they had for one another and they were completely blind to it. Fast forward 10 years, Alex has become a widow and she’s lost and afraid, until her sister Sierra invites her to her 10 year high school reunion, where low and behold she reconnects with Jace, her high school crush.

Oh man these two were explosive together (see what I did there lol). Their chemistry was off the charts and their moments together were very sweet but Jace wanted more and Alexa was afraid to risk losing her heart once again if anything were to happen to Jace in the battle field. What I loved the most was the fact that Jace never gave up on their love. He fought. This ultimately was a great story and I loved the ending so much. I felt it was perfect for them. I’m looking forward to reading Knox’s book because oh my lawd that man had me swooning just as much as Jace #yum.
