If you read this book, it will help you discover about 15 people's work quickly. Then you can dive deeper by reading the work of those that interest you. This is information and ideas that can be applied - not vague or theoretical philosophizing.
I suspect this book, after the initial read, will serve me as a reference for years to come.
It's also different and, in one key way, better than any other business book I've every read.
The book is structured, so you can absorb fifteen different business thinker's ideas in deep, actionable, and interconnected ways. Each chapter starts with the author providing relevance for the chapter. He then, in interview, AND, book summary form, covers each thinker's ideas in-depth, focused on the author's field of expertise, insurance news and sales.
You experience their ideas in conversational, expositional, AND applied form - which totally surprised me, and make this book a stand-out.
Luminary after luminary stopped talking at the 50,000 foot strategic level, and was pulled right into the tactical level. The author made them actually "do-it" on the spot, and they did! The really cool part is that *any* small business owner could benefit from those insights. I learned things about works which I've read and re-read. What he got out of John Maxwell about leadership, and David Allen about getting things done, make this a solid recommendation. Other people interviewed, Harvey Mackay, in particular, gave me options for challenges I have right now.
As a personal touch, the whole book is strung together with the Paul Feldman's heartfelt stories of applying, and failing to apply, these lessons in a way reminiscent of Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power, with a more human and less historical touch.
