Lawrence W. Henderson nasceu no estado de Washington e frequentou à University of Puget Sound, Yale Divinity School, e Hartford Seminary Foundation. Casou com Muriel Woods em 1943 e tiveram 4 filhos, dois dos quais nasceram em Angola. Aprederam português em Lisboa e Umbundu em Angola. O casal trabalharam 22 anos no Bié, Lobito, Galangue, Katchiungo, e Huambo. Ensinou antropologia cultural no Instituto Superior Católico, no Huambo, em 1967-68. De 1969 até 1975 foi secretário para Africa na Igreja Unida de Cristo em Nova Iorque. Pastoreou igrejas em Florida de 1977 a 1986. O casal viveu em Lisboa de 1986 a 1991, trabalhar para a edição do presente livro. Rev. Henderson falaceu em 2003 e D. Muriel Henderson em 2009. Lawrence W. Henderson was born in Washington state and was educated at the University of Puget Sound, Yale Divinity School, and Hartford Seminary Foundation. He married Muriel Woods in 1943 and they had four children, two of whom were born in Angola. The Hendersons learned Portuguese in Lisbon and then moved to Angola, where they learned Umbundu, the language of central Angola. They worked for 22 years in Bié, Lobito, Galangue, Katchiungo, and Huambo. While in Huambo in 1967-68, Henderson taught cultural anthropology at the Instituto Superior Católico. In 1969 when the Hendersons returned to the United States on furlough, they were denied a return visa. From 1969 to 1975 Henderson was Africa Secretary at UCBWM in New York and subsequently was Latin America Secretary from 1975 to 1977. He pastored churches in Florida from 1977 to 1986. Upon retirement in 1986 the couple moved to Portugal to work on this book. In 1991 they moved to North Carolina in the United States, where they lived till the end of their lives. He died in 2003 and she died in 2009.
