I thought I'd give my opinion, since everyone else seems to have not many good things to say about this lamp. Yes, its plastic,and yes, its inexpensive in price. Personally, that is just what I was looking for when I found these lamps. I now own four of these lamps,since I like them so much.
I bought mine to use in my camper. I wanted something that would not break when traveling and I like the fact that they are enclosed, so it keeps the bugs from getting inside of the shade,making a mess to clean up later. Yes, the lamp gets kinda' warm since the shade is enclosed, but its not hot by any means. Certainly not enough to ever melt the shade or lamp. Maybe the reviews that complain about it getting hot are using a bulb with a higher wattage than the 40 watt recommended?
Ok, so it doesn't come with a bulb. Everybody gave it a bad review because of that? Seriously? WOW! I purchased a package of ten E12 bulbs here on Amazon for $9.95
(Pack of 10) 40 Watt Clear G16.5 Decorative (E12) Candelabra Base Globe Shape 120V 40G16 1/2 Light Bulbs
So yes, this is not some high end, fancy lamp. It puts out enough light for my needs. It may be not enough to light up an entire room, but this is a relatively small lamp to begin with. If you want a lamp with reasonable light output, and is inexpensive, then this lamp should fill your needs. Where else can you find a lamp for this price? I am more than happy with the Ikea lamp!

Great for my classroom. Cheap, yes- I like this though, in case it gets broken or knocked around by my students- small investment. Small, also, however, it provides just enough light to read by when the classroom lights are off (for my desk), and it doesn't take up much space. What I like most (possibly what some people might not appreciate as much) is the fact that it's entirely plastic and entirely enclosed. The shade is plastic as well as the base, and the shade snaps in place over the bulb to close in the bulb compartment. The switch is located on the cord of this lamp. Does get warm, but not too hot. It's perfect for a classroom that gets dusty quickly (How is it that schools are so dirty!?).
Bought GE Lighting 17730 40-Watt Candelabra G16.5 Globe Bulbs - they fit perfectly and less than $3 (Add-on item).

I ordered this lamp for my daughter’s room. I was looking for a typical bedside lamp. I might not have gotten what I wanted but I was pleasantly pleased in the end with what arrived.

This is not a traditional lamp. The lamp “shade” is basically a plastic bucket. The bucket sits perfectly on top of an hourglass base. That’s plastic touching plastic all the way around. So, what you end up with is a “glow” instead of traditional light. I ordered a pink lamp so the entire room is bathed in pink. I’m not sure if another color would have a different outcome. The only downside with the lamp shade is that it does not lock into place. It could potentially pose a safety issue if it was not kept out of a young child’s hands. It would be safer if it maybe screwed on instead.

The lamp is small; 11 inches tall by 7.5 inches wide. The light bulb (25 watt) does not come with it and you will need to be purchased separately. It turns on via a switch located on the cord.

At first I was concerned the plastic would get too hot. It does not. It does get warm but not so hot that I would worry. I’ve left it on the entire night many times now and have had no issue with the heat.

What we ended up with is the perfect night light. The light is not bright enough to keep her awake but also makes the bedroom a little more fun as she’s going to sleep. I think if you keep these things in mind you will be happy with your purchase. I know that we were.

Really lightweight. You can put something heavy inside of it and duct tape it in without it being noticeable.

Using a LED light is cool. I like that I can set my hat on top of this to dim it, and it doesn't put off heat.

A little piece was chipped off on the underside of the shade when I received it. It still works properly though.

This lamp is somewhat different than what i expected but over all it works well. It has a plastic base and the lamp shade itself is also plastic. It pops off to reveal a 40 watt candelabra style light bulb. It has a toggle switch on the cord to turn it on and off. The brightness level is not high but works well for watching TV, perhaps a little brighter would be nice for reading. Overall I consider it a good purchase for the price.

I love this adorable little lamp! The design is modern yet classic at the same time, and for a small lamp it radiates a warm, glowing white light that isn't harsh or glaring. Not enough watts to light a room by itself, but a perfect accent lamp. Does not at all look plastic-y or cheap. I highly recommend!

Perfect for a little nightstand for a 7 yo girl (she loves it).
The lamp looks really pretty, feels like is a very good quality material, has an ergonomic switch and it's a 2 minutes-assembly lamp.
The light bulbs suggested by Amazon are getting very hot, I don't know if it's the lightbulb or the fact that the lamp 'enclose' the bulb (see the pic), we are afraid that the lamp may melt or something, so in the meantime we are looking for led lightbulbs to see if the temperature decreases.
