This is a fun holiday read and I've read quite a few. This one I can say is one of my favorites.
There is a lot of clever and subtle humor here- I mean look at our characters names alone- Holly Jolly and Saint Nicholsen. One is a self-proclaimed Grinch who resents her festive name thanks to some Christmas baggage- but she finds herself taking on her pastry chef dream job. Only problem is that it requires her to ooze Christmas cheer as the head gingerbread house maker for the historic Fairmont hotel. It also requires her to play nice with the actually jolly Saint Nicholsen- the hotel manager and Christmas fanatic- practically the Old Saint Nick, except he’s a cut and he’s a total hottie.
These two have a lot of fun and flirty banter as they have several humorous meet cute moments and butt heads over their divergent views on one of the most beloved holidays. Their attraction is undeniable, and a quirky but sexy chemistry develops between them. While they tackle the creative SantaCon preparations and gingerbread engineering, things heat up- and we got some parts both naughty and nice.
This is a cute and fast read, and despite one blip and their bantering, the angsty is blissfully low. It did take me a moment to get into this- the chemistry didn’t click for me straight away, I didn’t feel that spark. But, as Holly and Saint start to open up to each other more and the story becomes more about the meaning of Christmas, I got more invested in them. And their sexy chemistry iS HOOOOT. This is the second Christmas book with an inventive use of candy canes- let’s just say I’ll never look at one again. Saint gets a lot less nice and a lot more naughty in the bedroom.
The story ends rather cutely- leaving us with sweet but sincere themes around the true spirit of the season: believing. Believing that the most magical things of all are the things that are real and right in front of us- love, family, hope. It will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
Saint and Holly were just perfect though. I loved how the clicked, and they definitely had some steam in their relationship as well. Saint was perfect in how he went to win her over. And while normally at the end I might have been a little irritated with how the misunderstanding happened, I wasn’t because of the past of the character. But the way they handled fixing that was perfect and realistic, and I loved it! Great story, and an author I’ll definitely be sure to read more of in the future!
