INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER

“Grisham’s book shows considerably more humility and self-reflection than that of any other Trump administration veteran I’ve read (and I’ve pretty much read them all).” -- Laura Miller, Slate

“Salacious and score-settling.” --The Guardian

“Part giddy travelogue, part belated apologia, part petty payback, all personal-therapy session.” --The New York Times

Stephanie Grisham rose from being a junior press wrangler on the Trump campaign in 2016 to assuming top positions in the administration as White House press secretary and communications director, while at the same time acting as First Lady Melania Trump’s communications director and eventually chief of staff. Few members of the Trump inner circle served longer or were as close to the first family as Stephanie Grisham, and few have her unique insight into the turbulent four years of the administration, especially the personalities behind the headlines.

I’ll Take Your Questions Now is a White House memoir like no other, written by someone no longer bound by the codes of spin, denial, and twisted loyalty that the Trump administration imposed on all its members. Here is a brutally honest, frequently funny, and always perceptive look behind the scenes of a White House that was in turmoil from day one.

After an early stint in the White House press office, Grisham moved to the East Wing to work for First Lady Melania Trump. This introduced Grisham to a whole new perspective on Trump World, and she soon became a devoted adviser to the first lady, privy to Melania Trump’s most candid thoughts on every imaginable topic and noteworthy events: Jared and Ivanka, Stormy Daniels, the first lady’s infamous jacket that read “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” and much more.

Grisham’s work for the first lady would lead to her appointment as the White House press secretary in 2019. As one of the few figures in the Trump White House to last all four years, Grisham shares her unfiltered view of the whole experience—from the early days when she was seduced by the glamour and power of Trump World to her quickly ascending career in a frequently toxic, dog-eat-dog workplace, to the pinnacles of her profession, where she soon faced the harshest lessons of flying too close to the sun.

Grisham’s memoir is also a personal reckoning from someone who was a true believer, tracing her dawning awareness of how the administration began to lose sight of its mission—serving the people—in its constant battles with the press and other politicians and, above all, in the unending internal drama that consumed a rowdy cast of advisers, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, and the president and first lady themselves. It is a story that ends in tragedy with the events of January 6, 2021, the day on which Grisham was the first administration official to quit, a long-overdue severing of ties with the people who had brought her to the job of a lifetime but at enormous cost. It is an account in which Grisham spares no one, not even herself.

I’ll Take Your Questions Now is not just about politics or the White House. It is about loyalty and family, learning and screwing up, proud moments and monumental regrets, narcissism and humility, love and heartbreak, friendships and loss, and, of course, falling down and trying your damnedest to get back up.

First I want to say, anyone who is a Grandpa's Girl has to be a good person! I am one myself. Even though he has passed now and I am in my late 60's. From the time I was old enough to start to talk I would yell out before dinner, if we were there or they were at our home, I am sitting NEXT to Grandpa!! I did it every single meal we had together. I loved my grandma too, but... I am a Grandpa's Girl! Stephanie, you did a wonderful job on this book, however I wish you had not put in the part about those who want to read and those who don't. Everyone should read all that they can to learn the truth, and just because someone doesn't like a person does not mean they can't write a wonderful book, which this one is. I read all that I can get my hands on, all books are a learning experience and you learn to take what you except and leave the rest behind. I am so glad you filled us in on so many of the backroom stuff that I and I am sure many others wondered about. I also loved the quotes above each chapter, extra work, but an excellent way to do a book!! One of the things that really stuck out to me was the trip to England. My family is about 50% English and 50% Scottish. I have always loved the Queen and the whole ritualistic atmosphere there, and imagine what it would be like to have tea with the Queen, not that it would ever happen. When it was announced that they were going to England, I said to my husband, I hope they are not planning on taking that who family and moving in on the Queen. Sure enough they did and you did a wonderful job bringing that out. I just can't believe anyone would do that, I have never in 68 yrs seen another President do such a thing. Even the ones who had one daughter, the Clintons didn't take Chelsea with them on state type visits, nor did any of the other Presidents, the children were not ever invited even here in the states. The only thing I remember is little John John Kennedy who crawled under his dad's desk and was in the room when he had a meeting, however that was not a state dinner. It is hard to believe that I made it though 4 yrs of Trump and Company. I knew it was coming and it scared me to death as I could see though him right from the start. I have a husband who is so like him it is not even funny, he is being treated by a psychiatrist and is still raging and racist and a liar and hate filled but just much less. The first day in office seemed like we would never get through it and I remember Rachel Maddow saying " gosh, we are two weeks in and it seems like forever. It did to me also. I am so glad that you got away and got a little home to have as your own to go and be at peace for a while. People like the President take a lot of energy out of people, and the treatment is not good, so we have to love ourselves enough to know when we need that down time, and take it for real. I have a phobia to snakes and you would have heard me screaming and standing on fence posts also if I saw one. I grew up with them as my dad farms and they are on the property and I hated them. I certainly understand your feelings about those little monsters. When you mentioned your boyfriend and the way he acted I knew that this was not the first for you and not the last until you had an epiphany and realized where these issues and feelings were coming from. I had an epiphany back years ago and learned with my psychologist ( who is excellent ) that I had been in these relationships for years and since I was young as my dad was the start of it all. He is 91 and I just forgave him not long ago, for all that he did to me and caused me to live. I have been married for 30 yrs and it is truly like a cult. If you don't do what they say, and act the way they want, then the rage follows. I just laugh now as I spent 1000's of dollars on books and learned so much about his disease that my psychologist said I needed to hang a shingle and start practicing. Laughing. I do know a lot and that is why I was scared. I was also raised in a cult till the age of 16 and so I know a ton about that also and what goes on when you try and leave. So I understand you not being able to give notice and just leave, others always have the say of no you are not going anywhere! Do as I say!! I feel that the White House for you was a way of spiritually moving up about 1000 miles. You really seemed to learn a lot of lessons as I have and that is what life is about, living and learning and living and learning some more. I wish you the very best in whatever you do, and I thank you for the service to our country and all the hard work you did. I myself don't know how you did it all and kept it all straight and yet, it seemed that no one even noticed as is usual with people like us. I thank you for the book as I got a lot of questions answered that other than YOUR BOOK nobody has touched on in their books. May the rest of your life be filled with peace and calm and may you always prosper in all that you do. Thank You. Read this book folks, it is an amazing look inside of things that others have not mentioned and that you just might be shocked at. I was. It is a page turner and a great read, and I would recommend it to all of you, no matter who or what you believe, or if you like her or not, that really has nothing to do with it anyway. P.S. One thing I wanted to say that I forgot and probably more also. I am getting old. When you went to visit the Pope in Rome, I thought it was just horrible ( and I saw the clips of it all ) that of all people that Sean Spicer had to sit it out. I knew he was NOT there, but didn't know he was sitting in a vehicle while Jared and Ivanka were up there visiting? That is just NOT right. I felt so sorry for that man, to get that close and yet not get into see the Pope would make one ill for the rest of their lives. How every SAD. He is a Catholic for God's sake!

This book is an amazing page turner. The author truly brings to life the guts of the Trump White House. The man appears, more than ever, to have no clue about politics. On the other hand, he is great at insulting staff, taking total advantage of all them and all humans who are not worshiping him. I don't have a clue how Ms. Grisham lasted as long as she did in the environment she and all staff were exposed to. I'm fascinated how poorly her use of the English language was for the position she had, but one really needs to just mush through that, and wade through the experience.

I couldn't put this book down bc it had so many juicy tidbits. Or so I thought. In a sense this book gave me a little more understanding of Donald Trump and his wife. He's a HR nightmare on sexual harassment but is very concerned about nuclear weapons.
It was annoying to read how much Ivanka and Jared kept putting themselves in every White House meeting, especially since it wasn't their place to be. That was the scary part. How much Ivanka and Jared controlled the West Wing with no experience prior. Also how Ivanka was trying to be First Lady was embarrassing.

I am a staunch Democrat and normally would not read a book by the "opposition." However, after reading the first few pages of I'll Take Your Questions Now, I decided to give it a try. Despite the fact that I find most writing and/or viewing regarding the 45th POTUS, FLOTUS and their White House term sickening, I quickly got hooked on Stephanie Grisham's telling of her experience with them. This is due to Stephanie's writing as well as her attitude, at least the way it came across to me in the book.

I take my hat off to her for being personally revealing, both about things that happened to her and about her thoughts and feelings. Reading about what went on in the Trump White House would not have been palatable or even possible (for me) without Stephanie's analyses, both of herself and those around her. I suppose on some level I was hoping she'd totally denounce them, along with the Republican party, but of course that wouldn't have, nor shouldn't have, happened. Instead, I see her as someone akin to a person she mentions in the Epilogue, Liz Cheney: a staunch conservative but with sincere American and democratic values. Her loyalty is to the country and the constitution, not to one person.

Finally, I was pleasantly surprised to see the photos at the end of the book which gave faces to some of the names. Perhaps Ms. Grisham will continue to strive to serve the U.S., but in a "real" way. If she's truly learned the lessons she claims in her book, she absolutely could.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truthful memoir
Reviewed in Canada on October 27, 2021
I really enjoyed this book. It was very well-written and I could not put it down. It is not a tell-all--in many cases, she speaks positively of Trump sets the record straight, admiring his accomplishments. But she does admit the Trump admin was often "a clown car alit with fireworks." Grisham exposes her own vulnerabilities in the midst of the previous dysfuctional West and East Wings. She is not on an ego trip--the book is not meanspirited. This memoir is true, heartfelt, and sad on some levels. Grisham learned from her experience in the Trump orbit, and how one-sided loyalty is at play with not only Donald Trump and many of his sidekicks but with his first lady who Grisham admired deeply. Still I think Grisham came out a stronger, healthier person even after her own personal heartbreak during the Trump era. And I wish her well.

Book had the typical stories you would expect but you could really hear the voices she is describing and I found that particularly pleasant. I have read other reviews that characterize it as a mad women looking for bare it all and there is a self serving feeling when you read it that you pick up on, but it didn’t really bother me I just enjoyed the stories about at the craziness that was in the Whitehouse for that term. It seemed exactly as I believed it would probably be.

This book was about as insightful as a tweet. Filled with self reflection and angst, the author is obsessed with the persona of Melanoma Trump to the point of obsequiousness.
The only thing this book achieves is underlying how yet one more utterly unqualified person managed to squirm their way into the Whitehouse in the backs of the equally unqualified Trumps and messed it up.
