A mugging brings them into each others lives and it's Raphael's persistence that keeps them in each others orbit.
A really intriguing story that deals with Cora's tragic past, Raphael's less than legal business practices, and how the two of them can come together to make each others lives better. Things are great until the poop hits the fan and then they're not great.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and it's left me impatient for more. I really enjoyed this story. The characters have enough depth and faults to be realistic even while the situations are not normal run of the mill situations.
Illicit Desires is the first book in the Illicit Love series by Taylor Michaels, which is the pen name for Nazarea Andrews. I have been a fan of Nazarea's since I read This Love, and I have read everything I could get my hands on of hers since. When I heard that she was writing adult stories under a new pen name, I couldn't wait to see what she would come up with under the name Taylor Michaels. She absolutely did not disappoint, and I loved this story from start to finish. This felt like her other stories, only even more steamy and sexy if that is possible.
When Cora Milan is robbed in front of the building that Raphael Ortiz owns, he will do whatever it takes to get her stuff back and put things right. What he doesn't expect is to develop such a strong connection to her instantly. Cora doesn't care that he is rich and powerful or that he is Miami's most eligible bachelor though and is determined to stay away from him. But Raphael wants her and will stop at nothing until she is his. When Raphael offers Cora a job she can't refuse, things between them change quickly. Soon they are unable to fight what is growing between them, but Cora begins to question who Raphael really is. Cora quickly finds out that being with Raphael is dangerous, and that is the last thing that she needs with her past. But as she gets more drawn into his world, she starts to envision a future with him in where is is finally free of her past. But when her past and present collide, can Raphael and Cora find a way to escape the dangers that would do anything to keep them apart?
I really liked Raphael. I know that he is dangerous and what is typically considered a bad guy, but he was so sexy and protective.Read more ›
Cora Milan and her stepbrother Paul have just moved to Miami. They need to have a place to be low key. One day after looking for work, Cora is mugged. A very handsome man comes to her rescue.
Raphael Ortiz witnesses a young woman being mugged in front of his building one morning. He had already been watching the young woman and intrigued with her beauty. He offers her is his help having decided he wants her. Cora has no clue what or who has just came to her rescue. It is none other than the head of the Mafia.
Raphael is dangerous, smooth talking, sexy, and a total bad boy. He is everything Cora does not need in her life or is he? Raphael offers Cora a job for him knowing he can keep her close and make the moves on her. Cora is reluctant to get close let alone accept a job at first. She is on the run with her brother from something very traumatic in her past. Raphael wants to protect her yet he also has a past that is fixing to explode into his life again. Someone does not want Raphael to be with Cora and is very bitter when they find out he is with her. Carlita is Raphael’s ex and she is instantly on the prowl to run off Cora.
Taylor Michaels does a really good job at keeping you on your toes and trying to figure out what exactly Cora is on the run from. She really weaves the mystery and danger in the story that kept you guessing on edge. I was instantly hooked and in love with this story. You will get hot steamy sex, dangerous men, and a gripping back-story on both. Be prepared to be sucked in!! This is a five star read and we highly recommend you pick this one up today!

Both Raphael and Cora have some pretty heavy-duty baggage, relationship and otherwise. We spend much of this novel figuring out some key things about their backgrounds, things that might bring them together or tear them apart. In fact, in the final pages we see an element of Raphael's life causing their separation while moments later a threat from Cora's past ensures that she's not going to be completely rid of him anytime soon. Did I mention a cliffhanger? ;)
Raphael and Cora move pretty quickly into a very intense relationship; for him at least, it's lust at first sight, literally from page one as Cora walks past his building and has her purse stolen. What he does from there has elements of a fairly frightening fairy tale as he swoops into her life and solves a lot of her immediate problems for her. Suddenly she has money, a job, and a sexy billionaire interested in her; however, that billionaire makes his money as the head of a cartel. One that she's now working for.
The jury's still out on this one. I'm not sure how I feel about a hero who truly is a bad bad boy. He has people beat up. He deals in drugs. Mention is made of dealing in even darker trades. Sure, he's an attractive, powerful man, but....
Cora is a strange blend of too much innocence paired with worldliness. On the one hand her past does have some very frightening stuff that she's lived through, making it somewhat believable that she'd want the protection that a guy like Raphael could offer.Read more ›

I actually really loved this book. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is the story moves a bit fast, it was they meet and he is in love. Read morePublished 19 months ago by Sierra Brown
