The writer's descriptions of places and objects not only didn't slow me down, but moved the story forward and put me in the scene. Shirley Jackson used this method deftly. So does Linda Schoonover. I hope she has more books coming down the line.
Far too often, people deny or refuse to acknowledge certain "issues" in life. The Christian community is extremely guilty of this. As a Christian and child who grew up with abusive behavior, I beg you not to ignore the message of this book.
Children suffer and are traumatized for life. Yes, having a personal relationship with Christ and getting counseling teach you how to deal with your past. But scars remain.
This well written book will help open your eyes and educate you on some of what abused children live through and how it shapes their lives.
