“Because it can be drawn in one continuous line without the pen leaving the paper, it is a symbol of protection, and despite its name was often used in the Middle Ages as an anti-witchcraft symbol; however, it was also used by witches to control the weather or as a love charm, which indicates that the symbol was used homeopathically. There are lots of different magic knots.”
Why is a continuous line a symbol of protection? How was it used against witchcraft? Why was it used for those two very unrelated things in witchcraft? How is homeopathy related to any of this? WHAT OTHER MAGIC KNOTS, THERES ONLY ONE ILLUSTRATION—
I find many descriptions of symbols I am familiar with have only a fraction of their complex meaning and history recorded here, and often have added associations with unrelated concepts, particularly male/female gender.
Nevertheless, it is an excellent visual guide to a great many symbols. I plan to use it as a starting point to learn about new symbols and where to start when researching them further.
