Interesting take on a love triangle - Single mother, widowed daughter, and single father-in-law each struggle for a strong relationship with the son/grandson, while fighting their irritation/attraction with each another. Certainly predictable elements, as all romances are meant to have a happy ending, but this story did have some interesting twists. I especially enjoyed many of the Harlequin NEXT books, because they were about people who were older than 25 and made for a more interesting read. However, Harlequin dropped the series long before they should have.

Ms Crosby has written a wonderful story for us! Our heroine Maureen Hart lives in San Francisco isn't even 40 yet and has a 6 yr old grandson, Riley. Maureen was only 17 when her daughter Jess was born and Jess turned around and did the same thing-the boy died before marrying her but she lives in Seattle next door to Riley's paternal grandpa, Daniel Gregg.

Maureen is a uptight workaholic and wants the promotion that will soon be available at work, has a boyfriend, Ted Montague, who she thinks will be proposing. They have a European vacation in just two weeks.

Maureen has that special feeling with Riley but wants even more--she wants him to be happy she's his grandma! Maureen does feel she has been cheated of a special relationship with both Riley and Jess. Daniel lured Jess & Riley to Seattle so he is not one of her favorite people.

Jess came to town one Saturday without calling and asked if Riley could stay for awhile with Maureen. Maureen is in 7th heaven with the prospect of having Riley to herself. Of course there is daycare to find for him with her job being a 10-12 hr day. Daniel shows up the next day and thinks just fall in place for him to be the daycare--he's a college professor and has the summer off.

I don't want to give anymore away but I loved Maureen in the beginning but as she *grew* into a woman of her own I thought she was even better! Ted also changed and Daniel was just himself. Maureen learns lots of lessons as she changes.

Great secondary characters too. Ted, the boyfriend, Aunt Cherie, one of the original hippies, and Maureen's dad,Bill, her best friend, Anza and her boss and friend Bernadette. They help Maureen be who she is and to move forward in life.

I loved this book! H/h are just great characters I wanted to get to know them and spend time with them. Ms Crosby has the best characters in her books!

Wry humor, once the heroine got past her bitterness towards everyone else in the book. Entertaining.

I kept waiting for this book to be good. I wanted this book to be good. I wanted to like the characters. Instead what I got was a book that included: a woman that spent most of the time beating herself up, a self-centered daughter that runs off and leaves her kid and then rationalizes that it's for his own good, a domineering putz of a boyfriend, a father that expects his daughter to do all the work in the relationship, a self-righteous grandpa that never truly apologizes, an aunt that is a saint, a boss that uses her grief to treat her employees badly, and a little kid stuck in the middle. The book felt like going to a nice restaurant and getting bad food. It leaves one feeling cheated and still hungry.
