I strongly recommend this book for intermediate levels.
The text is very good, with the look and feel of a glossy type magazine. Emphasis is on reading, writing and speaking. The text is rather difficult however. If you did not work really hard in the beginning Spanish classes offered at the schools, this text is not for you.
You also need a good Spanish/English dictionary as the 'dictionary' / grammar indices in the back of the book are poor (in my opinion)
Really meaty text and holds up well during classroom discussions. It would be a good idea to use your Elementary Spanish text as a 'backup' or review for Imagina. It's that challenging.
The accompanying audio files are on the same site as the workbook/lab manual, but the videos are on a completely different one requiring a seperate registration and password.
The online homework is either graded by the computer, the instructor, or both. You don't find out until you've already submitted the answers to a given assignment. The computer apparently only accepts one combination of characters, so any omitted accent marks/misspellings result in an "incorrect" mark. It doesn't tell you what the correct answer is, but it will let you make repeated attempts, which the site says aren't factored into the cumulative score. Whether this refers to an attempt, or the entire assignment is anyone's guess. The instructions are vague, which obvously doesn't work well with the specific desired answers. The whole online part is an exercise in frustration.
To sum up- This book/system is expensive, flashy, and extremely frustrating. I have never come across a text that fails on so many levels.
A new book comes with a one time user code to be used for online assignments which your teacher will assign. Without this code, you cannot access the material.

I found it to be to detailed with much information that for me was not useful. I would have liked to see a more complete imagery of the culture and not only the perfect .Published on December 7, 2012 by Margaret Buschman
