This book provides a front row seat to the extremely personal and stigma ridden experience that Mike endured during the depth of his struggle with schizophrenia. It is the courage and strength of individuals like Mike who are able to share their story that provides the necessary hope to those who still struggle with mental illnesses like schizophrenia and works toward the elimination of the associated stigma. Not only is it extremely entertaining, but it serves the greater function of providing a hand to grab onto to those who continue to struggle, which is an invaluable service. Buying this book is a no-brainer to anyone who is interested in helping his/her fellow (wo)man.
Imaginary Things lets you experience first hand what it is like to live with schizophrenia. Michael Nicholas did a great job really capturing the pain felt and sorrow he felt after one of his meltdowns. You can feel the build up and how scary it is just by the words he uses. This is a must read for anyone who knows someome with a mental illness, has a mental illness, or wants to learn more about the everyday life and recovery process of schizophrenia. Great job to Michael for capturing feelimgs that authors for years have been trying to capture.
For anyone who has curiosity in understanding more about schizophrenia and what it's like to endure, this book really paints the picture. You can feel yourself in Mike's experience. A very honest and heart felt story that leaves you at the edge of your seat. This author did a great job at portraying not only a very personal experience, but also with capturing the need for faith. Showing that through faith, there is comfort, that through any trying situation there can be a light at the end of the tunnel. I would recommend this book to anyone who has curiosity about learning the mindset and struggle of a person coping with schizophrenia, and also for anyone who may have doubts about faith and the strength of prayer. I look forward for future comings from this author.
This is an open and honest story of a young man's struggle. As you read his story you cry with him, laugh with him, and rejoice with him. The rejoicing comes as he recognizes his need for a Savior, and turns to Jesus for healing. What an incredible testimony of the good that God can make out of any situation.
This is very personal look into infamous, complicated illness we call scizophrenia. Mike opens up about how hos scizophrenia was a spiritually battle that eventually helped him to find God. It is a very interesting short book that may open your eyes to the spiritual battle we are all in that doctors do not fully understand medically speaking!
Although this book lacks in length, it more than makes up for it with substance. Intense, fascinating, and at times funny; I was only disappointed when I was done reading and wanted more!! I look forward to reading whats up next for Michael Nicholas, who with Imaginary Things, makes New Jersey very proud.
