It does begin each study with a parable and continues with Scripture throughout each unit. It appears theologically sound. My problem is that I'd expected each unit to dig into the meat of each parable, to help people in my congregation understand just how revolutionary these stories were and are today. It doesn't do that.
Session three, on the Parable of the Ten Virgins just briefly touches on the parable before going into several other texts on being prepared. Session four on the Parable of the Loving Father doesn't address the older son at all. Session six touches on the parable at the beginning of the lesson, after a great deal of literary license in retelling the story before going off into a moral lesson of spiritual confrontation. Exegetically, this is a very weak resource that doesn't get people into the messiness and provocative questions the parables ask us.
I can't recommend this book with much enthusiasm.
