Editorial Reviews

Review

A Chandler-esque noir.... As Royce's debut mystery begins, private investigator Tom "Sully" Sullivan is in a confessional seeking an absolution he doesn't believe in. He's bleeding after having taken a .38-caliber slug in his side.... At book's end, readers may wonder about Sullivan's fate, but they can take heart in the book's subtitle: A Tom Sullivan Mystery. Sully's not going anywhere anytime soon.  An enjoyable first outing that wraps an intriguing idea in a well-paced plot. - Kirkus Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Sully is hired by Sam Collier, a rich and powerful man, to find the young surrogate mother carrying the heir to his vast fortune. He follows the twists and turns, ultimately exposing a complex case of "embryo-napping."

SPOILER ALERT - i really enjoyed this book - I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all tie together, i love the moral dilemma or ethical
issue of a woman possibly murdering her own fetus even though it's in someone elses body. That entire concept blew me away. What an interesting thing to
ponder and debate. Tom Sullivan is a classic gumshoe. This novel is noirish without being stuck in the past. It presented a completely modern, sexy, stylish murder mystery set entirely in modern day Los Angeles. Can't wait for the next installment.

This is a good afternoon read. It has no pretensions of being great literature, and yet the writing manages to be pretty good. It's a three star book, but a very solid three stars. I'm kind of a snob about fiction, yet I put the book down wishing I could find more solid three star writers. If your looking for an engaging afternoon mystery you won't be disappointed.
