Aside from nerdy enjoyment, what I think really made me LIKE this book was (mild?? spoiler?) healthy communication between the main characters. It was a fluffy and quick read, but communication like that is something I would love to see in more fiction, and romance in particular.
Lovely, and very much looking forward to reading the next books in the series!
My expectations for a mummy-themed romance were low. I thought there was no way an undead warrior "guardian" could be sexy. WOW, WAS I WRONG! Her Immortal Guardian was funny, smart, full of nerd references, jokes, bad puns (is there such a thing as a good pun?), and the kind of funky, small-town college charm that people long to run away to. If you love Stars Hollow, Cicely Alaska, or the kind of cozy setting small-town rural American-set mysteries provide, RUN AWAY TO THIS BOOK! It's like a vacation on your kindle!
The romantic heat grows at a tolerable pace between the main couple, until it explodes into one of the best-written (maybe *the best*) love scenes I've read in any novel. It wasn't corny. It didn't make me need to look away. Did I mention it was hot? I wouldn't want to read it aloud--I'd turn a million shades of pink like the leading lady's hair! I kept saying to myself, "Wow," though, while I was reading. Well done, indeed.
Do not be afraid to give new voice in romance Mara Dana a try! This novel was a joy to read, and I can't wait to read book 2!

I just loved Viv and Khensuhotep. The story and romance was amazing. I thought the theme was great, and it was so descriptive. I loved the references to pop culture, and they had me laughing along with the book. You will not want to miss this one.
