I was expecting a black heroine but the description was somewhat disappointing. I admit their are some green and grey eyed AA ppl but generally they are biracial. If Ayah hadn't declared she was black when talking to Seven I wouldn't have known otherwise. The female character doesn't have to be Hershey chocolate but creamy, pink/rosey or sable hair doesn't readily ring a "sistah". Anyway, It leaves you with a cliffhanger and some unanswered questions. It wasn't necessarily rushed (except for when the h/h first met) but some points could have been expelled upon ie... What prompted the actions of her uncle? I do hope there will be a book two. I would like to know what happened between Freya and Val. Lei and Alex in the Hel's realm. Will Alex find his woman and if so is she at least a butter pecan complexion with Senegalese twist. Lol!
I enjoyed Ayah and Sevani. Both were strong characters with lots of responsibility. Sevani has been trifled with by the Gods and he continues to pay the price for it. And then he meets Ayah. Is she his second chance? Will Sevani chose Ayah over his mission? And if so what would be the cost? Ayah is both innocent and strong. She has lost her father and is struggling with grief when Sevani enters her life and shows her a dangerous new world that is less than fair. The rules are different and shaped by the whims of the Gods no one believes in anymore. Ms. Newton gives us two characters that had to fight to be together. And the secondary characters added a wonderful layer to not only the story but also the characters. Their interaction with Sevani’s comrades was wonderful and the loyalty they had for each other made me that much more invested in this story. Ms. Newton added layer upon layer to this story. She would resolve one story line while dangling more that I couldn’t wait to follow to its conclusion. I enjoyed seeing what would happen next and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Newton has in store for Sevani and his “family.”
Ayah Miller's having a hell of a day. She just buried her father, and found she's a millionaire. Now it turns out she's a pawn in a battle between Gods and a Goddess. At least, that's what Sevani, the hotass who just kissed her within an inch of her life, says. And if an Immortal Watcher, like he tells her, then he'd know.
It sure seems plausible when bullets start flying, swords start swinging, and only half the fighters are trying to kill her.
She's just starting to get comfortable with Sevani (and falling for him) when she learns it's probably not her he's been kissing: it's probably the soul of his long-lost wife she's carrying.
Now there's no one she can trust. Not Sevani. Not Valeria, Alexander, and Lei who fight alongside him. Not Freya, the Goddess who created the Watchers, who hides behind her pretty smiles. And certainly not her family, because it's one of them who wants her dead.
Can she stay alive long enough to learn who she can trust, and whether she's who Sevani loves? (Amazon Blurb)
I was an instafan of LeTeisha Newton ever since I’ve had the chance to read Sin’s Pleasure. She knows how to weave a paranormal plotline in such a way that even if readers don’t read or have never read this genre, they would be taken in by the plot and never notice that they’ve managed to finish the entire novel in one sitting. Ayah and Sevani are two characters who are finding themselves: Ayah has discovered that she’s been placed in the middle of a battle and must rely on Sevani, an Immortal who believes that his wife’s long lost soul has been reborn in her, in order to survive. The number of individuals she can trust are quickly dwindling for Ayah, but she knows she can’t stay alive on her own, not the with numerous contracts trying to kill her. I was fascinated from the beginning: paranormal, the intrusion of Gods and Godessesses in the lives of humans and reincarnations, those are all aspects that I look forward to reading, especially if there are no shifters or vampires included in the novel. LeTeisha Newton has rightly taken a spot in my favorite paranormal authors, and I look forward to her next novels with great impatience.
