Kane's sudden run of near-fatal accidents always happen when Enya is present. She might be hot, but he's not willing to die to get to know her. Then he discovers she's fighting for his soul. That damned immortal temptress might be the death of him.
What is in the description is what you get folks. The book was ok. I kind of want to read the next in the series to see what happens to Enya and Kane. Its fast paced and does have graphic sex so this would not be considered YA. I'm glad I got it for free and it was worth the quick read. I will be on the lookout for the next in the series to be on a freebie list somewhere. I just can't justify even spending 99 cents on this type of book. It is out of my normal genre and I thought it was just ok. 3 stars.
**For Amazon Readers**- Many of the reviews are titles short, left hanging, or not enough, but I do want to say that this is the first in a series. There is already another book out by Aileen Fish that continues the tale of Enya and the Morrigans.
3 3/4ish stars
This was a short and sweet story. It made me think of the movie City of Angels. Enya gets assigned to people who are about to die. She makes sure that demons don't try to overtake the body once the soul has left them. Her latest job is to stay close to Kane Sullivan whose time will be up shortly. This job should be simple, if only she could prevent herself from getting involved. A seemingly harmless decision on her part changes events. It grants her more time with Kane, but he seems to be followed by a string of bad luck (at this point I kept thinking about Final Destination). They fall hard and fast, but when he's forced to choose between her or the afterlife, which will he choose?
Short and sweet, with the theme of angels vs demons, good vs evil and can an immortal find and keep love? Enjoyable short read. The ending leaves you wondering whether Enya got into trouble or not, but there's an except from Devil's Promenade, Book #2 - Renegade Wolf (Devil's Promenade), and we get a brief glimpse of Kane and Enya again.
While Enya has done her job well for centuries, this mission has several complications. Enya is physically attracted to Kane and he to her, and she does not want to see him die. Additionally, a drunk female is also attracted to Kane and continually interferes. Also Kane goes through a number of near death experiences, including car crashes and a burning house. Is someone or something trying to kill him? Is she inadvertently keeping Kane from dying when she is forbidden to do so? What can she do to help Kane whom she loves?
The book's pitch is very accurate but it did not mention the sexual tension, the intriguing new world, and the blast the characters had as they battle against the evil villains. As I am looking for a short read, the book came up rocking and intrigued me enough to want to check the author's other books.
If you are looking for a full book's benefits, you will not get it in this short book but you will get a good glimpse on Enya and her fellow morrigans' world.
A very refreshing change from the vampire and werewolves books that is swamping the market this days. Of course this is just a glimpse, who knows who else plays in this author's dark world.
Although the world built by the author is certainly unusual, the story itself is pretty standard and kind of dull. It's difficult for me to believe that Enya could really have gotten away with the action that she winds up choosing
