I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
The main focus of this book was clearly Ryker and Sloane. All of the action revolved around these two, and there was a heaping helping of fraught desire on both sides. The term "sparks in the air" applies to these two. Their opening scenes produced both a flash of heat and snort of laughter from me. Side characters made brief appearances, and while I don't intend to spoil anything here, if Slade were to get his own book I'd waiting for it to drop.
Finally, Chupey. As a side character dog~ish been written so well ever? Three other mutts stand out on the level of Chupey: John Wick's dog(s), Rogue's mutt from Susan Valenti and Caroline Peckham's Harlequin Crew, and Eva Ashwood's River and her tag-a-long in Dirty Broken Savages
Our FMC Sloane is a witty, snarky, kickass, strong as hell heroine that can handle just about anything thrown at her—even when life throws her for the biggest loop yet: a rare disease and only a few months to live. After taking a job in her friends place, she soon discovers there’s more to the world then she originally thought when she discovers that Ryker, her hot as hell boss that seems to hate her, is an actual demon…and that she may be one too.
And not only that, but that her father was actually the King of the Underworld, the last Lucifer, and now she has to fight for the throne in a series of deadly trials. And apparently the extremely hot and sexy demon guardian that told her all about it is her main competition. So what’s a girl to do when she’s given the choice to either fight for a throne she didn’t even know existed in the pits of hell or die? She comes out swinging….
I absolutely loved the love/hate connection between Sloane and Ryker and how they just seemed to fit together—even when they didn’t lol I loved how their feelings evolved throughout their journey and how Ryker learned to overcome his need for revenge and began to accept his new feelings. And while all the side characters were amazing, Chupey of course was just the absolute BEST!
Overall if you love a quick urban fantasy read packed full of nonstop action, hot chemistry, emotional angst, tragedy and loss, and tons of angst then this is the one for you!
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.
