I would like to thank the author of this book, Norma Hinkens for reaching out to me and giving me the chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review!

Immurement is a dystopian story that follows our main character, Derry Connelly as she tries to live and survive in a world that has been plunged into chaos and is fraught with danger.

I haven’t read a dystopian book in what feels like quite some time so it was really refreshing to be plunged back into the chaotic of environment of a dystopian world. I had alot of fun reading this book and getting lost in it, running through the forests alongside Derry and her dog, Tucker. When I first started the book it sort of gave me the feeling I had when I first started reading The Maze Runner. While I didn’t end up liking The Maze Runner, I ended up really loving Immurement.

As far as characters go, I loved Derry. I love that she’s flawed and that it’s obvious that she’s a character who is growing into herself and her position in her world. I love Derry’s development through the story. When I first started reading it she seemed to me like every teenage girl worried about the normal teenage girl things like boys and her dog but obviously in a more hostile setting. But when we get to the end she has just changed so much and because she has gone through tragedy and has had to make extremely hard decisions in order to survive she has grown up alot, become harder and more of a survivor. It’s interesting to see her try to balance her will to survive with her innate sense of compassion that seems to be missing from alot of people in her world. I appreciate her relationship with Tucker so much and alot of the time it was really endearing to witness their interaction with each other.

This novel has intriguing imagery and great details which keep the reader engaged in the plot. The world in which the story occurs is realistic in its descriptions and makes the reader enveloped in the plot and the lives of the characters. The story line is easy to follow and the writing is well edited. I enjoyed reading the book and learning about this new world that the author has created. All in all, this book is a great read and I recommend it to any young adult reader who is interested in this genre and enjoys reading. I look forward to the next book in the series!

My review for Immurement is going to be hard to put into words. It's a rather easy read. It's one of the books that once you get into it, you just can't put it down. I enjoyed how Derry was learning who she was as a person throughout the book. One of her quirks was her indecisiveness; While it was frustrating on occasion, I think it was so human like and believable. In my opinion, it goes nicely with the other character's quirks throughout the story. Immurement's cast was very diverse in its personalities. I believe the young adult genre could use a wider range of temperaments. I think Norma Hinkens deserves an A+ in that field. All her characters came off as people, not just words in a book.

I enjoyed the story line behind the change in the world. I know a few might have an issue with the un-scientific aspects of it, but It's fiction! Not everything in fiction needs to be realistic. Sometimes you need to just agree with the reality the author creates! Immurement had an unusual storyline, and I thought it was positively exciting! I know I didn't see the main twist coming, which is rare! I thought the plot was going in a way difference direction. My only real complaint is that the beginning of the book didn't flow well for me, but after the first 30-40 pages it took off. I couldn't stop reading after that point. I'm looking forward to reading the second when I have the time, and Norma Hinkens is on my radar!

I really liked how Immurement has such a very strong female lead. Derry is very capable and can kick a lot of *ss. She is also very conscientious of making good decisions even when she doesn't like the people involved. This book is definitely not just for girls.

Immurement was a quick read because it was very suspenseful. Hinkens excels at the whole chapter ending hook that just keeps you turning the page. There is nonstop action throughout. The world building is definitely interesting, but I felt like a few things could have used more explanation, like how the scientists got started with their experiments to begin with and more about how their science worked. I also wondered about the reeducation center and how that came about. But maybe these are addressed in Embattlement: Book 2 of the Undergrounders series!

I don’t know where to start. I loved the writing and World building, This book pulled me right in.

This is the reason why I love indie writers while trying different books every once in a while you find an author with raw talent. The story doesn’t come together at some scenes but I think this author needs some more books and experience and that problem is gone.

The main character has everything I look for in a strong heroin she is kick-ass but real, she fights for the ones she loves and shows compassion even for the ones that do not deserve it.

I can’t wait for the sequel.
