I'm happy to say it does that very well. It also came with something I did not see when I was looking at the item details: a removable counter weight on the back of the arm, which works reasonably well for balancing most of the arm weight itself, particularly when the arm is fully extended. This means less strain on the joints/locks when you have something attached to the other end of the arm, and better balance of the light stand. If attaching a light reflector indoors I don't see needing to add additional weight. If you put heavier items on the arm you might need to sandbag your light stand, or the back of the arm, to provide additional counter balance. I wouldn't load it too much, there are plastic pieces here, but for flags, scrims, reflectors, etc. it should be fine.
The arm extends quite far out, no problem holding a large 60" reflector as stated. The position and rotation of the clamps can be changed very easily, making the clamp distances customizable. The clamps themselves are rubber coated, so there won't be any damage to fabric, etc. The grip of the clamps is firm.
I have not used it outside. I would say though, that provided you sandbag the lightstand adequately, this could probably be used in light wind.
Construction is quite sturdy. I expect this to last me quite some time.
The holder would fit on to any standard light stand and the grip or mount is secure. Some of the positive qualities are summarized below:
a) Finish quality: Excellent, does not look like a cheap product, looks very professional.
b) Weight balance: A balance head on the other side of the holder ensures that the light stand wouldn't tip over by the weight of the reflector (Definitely useful)
c) Adjustable clamp distance: The holder has a telescopic movement, so the gap between the clips can be increased or decreased depending on the size of the reflector.
d) Nice clamps: 2 clamps present to hold the reflector. They shut tightly so even a thin material can be held between them.
Even though everything is nice about this product, I would still give it 4 stars and not 5. The gripe I have about this is that it uses gravity to keep the reflector in place. In essence the reflector hangs from the 2 clips at the top of the bar. That makes it prone to moving(if there is wind). I would recommend adding weights to keep it stable.
This arm allows me to also attach a large foam board and position it parallel to the ground for lighting under the chin for head shots. I no longer have to ask the model to hold the reflector or flat foam board. The counter weight is an added bounus to keep everything in balance. I'm very happy with this purchase.
