"A strong follow-up to The Faithful, S.M. Freedman's Impact Winter immediately plunges us back into the chaos of the I Fidele destroyed world ... A fantastic job by a talented writer, The Faithful series is earning its place on my "Must Reads" shelf. Non-stop twists and turns, hope and despair commingled, good and evil ever at war. Impact Winter will leave you all sorts of mixed up, messed up, and needing to find out how it all ends." - Sci-Fi and Scary

Praise for The Faithful
"Wacky and far-reaching, this work reveals fiery intellect."
"Best Novel of 2015 by a Debut Author."
"The Faithful is a haunting, edge of your seat mystery."
"A very gripping story right from the beginning. The plot is complex yet excellently well written. Author S.M. Freedman uses a straightforward yet deeply moving literary style. The characters are well-developed, perhaps the best ones I've read so far."
"Good characters, gripping scenes, wonderful writing. Freedman is a writer to watch."
--June Hutton, author of Underground and Two Gun & Sun
"S.M. Freedman's The Faithful is as brilliant as it is original. The characters are so real that I feel I know each of them personally--even those I wish I didn't."
--Andrea Domanski, author of The Omega Group series
"A stunning exploration of twisted memories, Freedman has woven together an earth-shattering story that will leave you desperate for a sequel."
--J.D. Faulkner, author of The Time Archivist novels
"S.M. Freedman's The Faithful is a book of mind-blowing depth, delving into humanity at its creepiest and yet also soaring to the sweetest heights of hope and love."
--Hannah Sullivan, author of Thunder and Five Weeks: A Lifetime
"Freedman's writing is lean, mean and pacy; this girl knows about technical stuff I can't even begin to imagine. The depth of her knowledge on dirty great surveillance telescopes, past life regression techniques and any number of police procedures is very impressive. Somehow she manages to deliver complex plots, high-octane action and characters you just know you have met before. Stunning stuff. This story and these characters will stay with you for a very long time - all the way until you read the sequel!"
-- Jacky Gray, author of the Hengist - People of the Horse series
"This is a novel of breathtaking scope and reach. So many elements come together to create a rare synthesis of craft and artistry: characters with dimension and depth; language that flows and resonates; a plot that's intricate and accessible at the same time. I found hanging on to every word effortless."
--Jennifer Skutelsky, author of Tin Can Shrapnel and Grave of Hummingbirds
"The Faithful was brilliant. The character development was spot on, and some of the prose even reminded me of the King of horror himself--StephenKing."
--The Dark Corner blog
"A riveting, captivating and well-written tale."
--Rockin' Book Reviews
"The ease with which she writes is amazing and engrossing."

Impact Winter is just the same, perhaps even more so. The writing talent that shone through the words in the first novel, has been sharpened and focused for even tighter plot and character development. Did you love the characters before? Did our sassy cowboy-quoting class clown have you laughing like crazy? Just wait!!
I can't wait for the next installment. I need it like yesterday. Our characters are in for a tough, bleak existence and yet there is something some hopeful, do undeniably human and optimistic in the face of such evil, that I find myself scared by the possibilities, but refreshed by the chances to survive and thrive.
Anyway, that's me gushing. 5 stars and lots of love for this sequel.
I'm all for suspense, and bringing the reader back, but those kinds of endings always feel like a cheap gimmick to me. Books aren't tv shows. It's often a year or more between installments, and with endings that hang in the balance that much, it just irritates me. I much prefer authors that can keep the readers coming back due to the quality of their writing and their story. S.M. Freedman has done this in both her books. I look forward to reading anything she writes in the future.
Although I frequently do reviews on products offered to me at a promotional price, this was a personal purchase. I was not asked, nor am I obligated to give a review.
"Impact Winter" picks up where S.M. Freedman's first book, "The Faithful" left off. The clandestine religious organization, I Fidele, has forced destruction on the entire world and begun the next phase of their plan, the extermination of humans who do not have psychic powers. All the characters from "The Faithful" appear in "Impact Winter". Ryanne, Josh and Sumner plot against I Fidele in what often seems like a futile effort to save humanity. My favorite character is Neema, who is new to the story. She is the mother of three children, two of whom have psychic abilities. Thus, Neema must fight not only for survival, but also to protect her children from I Fidele.
S.M. Freedman's writing is smooth and strong, delivering a darkly disturbing dystopian tale. I appreciated that the author included well-timed humor and a hopeful, uplifting conclusion. I highly recommend "Impact Winter" as well as the first book of this series, "The Faithful".
