Let me warn you right now….. You’re going to need a full box of tissues, a large bucket of ice and a nice drink, or as I call it, book prep, while reading “Imperfect”.
Those of you who know me, know that Willow Winters is my favorite romance author-No surprise there. But I must say that she completely gobsmacked me with her enormous talent for poetry. Every single chapter starts with a poem written specifically for that chapter, or at least that how I interpreted them. I kept thinking…. “How the heck does she do that?” ….. Absolutely beautiful work in my opinion.
The mourning that Jules goes through at the loss of her husband will tear you up. Her struggles with moving on will break your heart. You’ll be needing those tissues I mentioned previously for all the ugly cries you will undoubtedly have. The guilt that Mason struggles with and the fear of what will happen when his devastating secrets are discovered will leave you on the edge of your seat just from dying to know what it is. Throw in hot sexy time between Mason & Jules… well, that’s where the bucket of ice comes in handy. YOWZA.
This story is so beautiful, emotional, suspenseful and gut wrenching….. Throw in secrets, lies and betrayal of the worst kind and what do you get? Ha… sorry, I’m not telling. Then, when you least expect it…….BANG!!!!!! The ending you didn’t see coming but will have you gasping for more more more!
So, get comfortable, grab a coffee, tea or a good old-fashioned shot of whiskey and settle on in for a story that will hit all the right “feels” and leave you SCREAMING NO NO NO NO NO by the time you finish reading that last page. Can Mason & Jules find a way to make a relationship work with all their baggage? It will be fun finding out….
Cliffhanger? Yes…..but as they say, delayed gratification is sometimes sooooo worth it. Book 2-Unforgiven can’t come fast enough for me.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book but I also purchased my own copy. ❤
I can not imagine what Julia Summer was feeling. Here she lost the love of her life. She was grieving. I can not imagine what that pain would feel like. To me the lost of a spouse would be the worse pain you could feel because it is the other half of your soul. There are a few twist and surprises when it comes to hubby dearest. Sorry will have to read the book to find out. Lets just say one secret after another keeps coming.
It had to be hard for Julia to get out with friends. She was tired of being sad. The one thing I found out about Julia was she worried what others thought. So to go out and been seen trying to be happy had to be hard for her.
Looking at Julia you see a broken woman. Her life is shattered in a million pieces. No matter how hard she tries to put her life back together it seems hopeless. Mason is like the glue. He truly wants to help piece her life back together.
Mason Thatcher was a man with a lot of secrets. The whole time you are reading the book you are trying to piece together how these secrets were attached to Julia. Lets just say these secrets could destroy anything he has with her.
Julia and Mason will find they carve each other just like they crave their next breathe. Mason will try to keep his secrets but secrets have away of coming out. These two will have one road block after another to face.
I liked at the beginning of each chapter that the author started it with a short poem. It was fitting since Julia wrote poetry.
This was a great story and glad I got to read the book. Unforgiven is defiantly on my TBR list.
I liked Mason a lot. I believe his heart is basically good and I was interested to find out what happened. Especially with his father.
What I struggled most with? Jules. I get it. But 8 months isn't too long to get over a ex who you know completely betrayed you. I understand questioning all your choices and life decisions but seriously after finding that apartment? I'm too chilly a woman to not put that jerk behind me, in fact that whole event would of pushed me to move on. I thought she was weak in this moment. My lamenting about what could of been would of had the door slammed on those feelings immediately.
The ending was just enough to get me to read the 2nd book which I did.....
Well written mystery with complicated characters, a broody anti hero IMO, who I really liked and a decent cliffhanger. Recommend.
