Perhaps we weren’t seeing in this what those who rated it so highly say but it was a muddled mess of stereotypes, cliché’s and propaganda. This one is about as unbelievable as they come and even if we overlook the abundant plot flaws there’s nothing of any substance happening and even believing Radcliff can handle a full size pickup truck in a getaway drive is laughable as he strains to see over the dash without a booster seat. Toni Collette makes a quick turnaround from supreme undercover agent handler to super mom with her princess girls and still finds time to swig vodka from the bottle in a late night parking lot meeting with Radcliff for a special moment of bonding. There’s a lot of lame dialog and a lot of blustering talk that’s there to fill the void.
Great movie. Nice to see Daniel Radcliffe extend his talent beyond Harry Potter. This movie offers great insight into the culture of extremists in America. I have seen people with the behaviors displayed in this movie, so it's not fake what people can be like in our country. Let us not deny the existence of extremism in this nation as much as they exist in the Middle East. These people are terrorists in the same way, but of a different race/color. So, those who claim this movie is leftist propaganda is simply promoting right wing propaganda. This is simply a movie about people who are interested in "genocide." The word does exists, right? That's because there are people who believe in such a concept.
The true focus of this film is about the complexities of being an undercover officer especially when trying to catch extremists. It takes an emotional tow on the agent. If you took the same officer and place the situation in the Middle East trying to capture an extremist there, the same complexities would take place on the undercover agent whether you are trying to catch white extremists or Middle Eastern extremists. Dealing with extremists is a difficult task all together. They are simply dangerous people to anyone outside their circle.
Daniel Radcliffe is wonderful playing a cop turned infiltrator in 'Imperium'. The film does exactly what it sets out to do, make the viewer uncomfortable and engaged. It's not flashy or spectacular, but it's satisfying. I have a steadfast rule: See anything with Tracy Letts. He once again doesn't disappoint. One of the most underrated actors of our time. There is a bit of social commentary from first-time feature film writer and director Daniel Ragussis. He paints the white supremacists as bumbling fools other than one. It's clear he takes a leftist slant so that may not be your cup of tea. I enjoyed this for the performances and despite knowing where it was going and a rapid conclusion it's a fine movie to select when you don't know what to watch. Final Score: 7.0/10

Some actors and actresses are always the same one dimensional character regardless of the movie he or she is in. When I watch Jennifer Aniston in a film she is always Jennifer Aniston and doesn't seem to take on characters. Daniel Radcliffe however morphs completely into his character. The story line was gripping and Daniel Radcliffe drew me into the tensions of his undercover world and kept me at the edge of my seat until the end.

...I came to the same conclusion I started with; the world is filled with hopeless cranks and some of them are violent. This movie shares a moment in history when so many rush to the left or the right trying to find their way in the inevitable melting pot occurring globally. The movie showed that we're not all that different but choose a path that helps each of us embrace what we believe to be the truth. The Earth is round so it doesn't matter going left or right, we still end up facing each other. What then? Five stars, I love this movie with all it's flaws.
I was looking forward to this movie and the message it sends. I thought Radcliff did a good job with the character and the story keeps you involved although it does leave a question here and there. It's a powerful movie with decent acting but I wouldn't go out and buy it.
Too much hate. I almost stopped it before halfway finished. Took a little break then finished it. It's a very good story that, I think, needs to be told but so much hate is a vexation to the spirit and in this movie that's 95% of the movie. The 5% of expressed love, or at least not active hate, comes off as phony as heck. There's no real flow to the story. I got the feeling that they filmed a lot of scenes and then patched them together trying to make a cohesive film. I think they dropped some scenes that were needed. I can't recommend it as worthwhile way to spend over an hour+half.
