3x8 + big pin = DVI-D, a dual-channel DVI connector for high , meant to send high resolution digital video
3x6 + big pin (missing 2x2 in middle) DVI-D single-channel connector. Also digital video, but lower maximum resolution.
3x8 + big pin with 4 pins around it = DVI-I Supports digital and analog video (assuming you use a VGA connector on the other side)
3x10 + big pin = M1-DA, usually used on projectors to input high resolution video. Usually used with HDMI or DVI on the computer side
A few PC makers use a similar looking connector to output two different video signals; these require a manufacturer-specific Y-splitter cable.
If you are trying to connect the DVI output on your computer to a regular TV with an HDMI input then use this model connector with a regular HDMI cable. And if your PC's video card supports it, (and you install the HD audio driver) you can also use this connector to send audio through the DVI port and into the HDMI cable to your TV, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable. I use this method to hook my GeForce GTX video card (DVI) to my HDMI TV.
Physically, the plastic molding around the HDMI port appears to have been modified as the edges were jagged and the port shielding is crooked.
Low quality, item not as described. TL;DR NOT RECOMMENDED
It seems to only work if you wiggle it a bit and hold it in a certain position. I used some paper to wedge it in the right position so the picture works. The nobs at the end of the screws look like metal in the picture, but they are actually plastic. They are also very close to the center piece so it is a bit difficult to tighten. The female HDM end is rather shallow. It is definitely not gold plated. Not that it matters with digital as it is all just 1's and 0's.
But, it is worth mentioning since they claim it makes it better. It almost deserves 0 stars. I finally broke down and spent 5 bucks on this cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014I8UU2W

Summary – This is an adapter that interconnects DVI D Male to HDMI female. This will work in either direction. So you can connect an HDMI to DVI or vice versa. I have this plugged into a USB to DVI video converter adapter and have an HDMI cable connecting my adapter to my monitor. This is working flawlessly as expected and I would recommend. It is also very reasonably priced making this an easy decision.
These adapters will not transfer any audio and only transfers video signals.
If your adapter has pins above and below the flat blade, then it will handle analog and or both analog-digital pending the remainder of pin setup.
Here is a quick easy to read way of knowing the various DVI types.
DVI – I This DVI type can use digital and analog within the same adapter.
DVI – D This DVI type is limited to digital signals.
DVI – A This DVI type is limited to analog signals.
All three of these can be single or dual link.
Single Link – Can support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 at 60hz.
Dual Link – These adapters contain additional pins which allow resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 at 60hz.
Solid adapter that works well.
This uses gold plated contacts for excellent signal transfer.
This has slots in the thumb screws if you wish to snug up your connections and ensure they do not become loose.
Connections are firm and snug.
One star was removed as I ordered this particular adapter as I liked the design with gold hardware – screws and this is not what I received. The photo should reflect the adapter being shipped. The listing even had two types shown in the listing and none of these matched the one received.
I recently had a need to use HDMI to DVI connection for a laptop and I was so happy to find this adapter in my box but when I connected from laptop's HDMI out to DVI monitor using this adapter, it didn't work.
This is very simple adapter and it's purpose is to convert the HDMI to DVI but it doesn't do that so it went straight to the trash can where it belongs. I can't even return it because it's well past the return window.
I wish I can give 0 star if I can. You've been warned. 😤

This adapter works as intended and the screen resolution came out so much nicer than without the HDMI.
Keep in mind that it does not come with the HDMI cable so you will need to purchase that separately, I bought mine from amazon basics in a two pack.
I have only been using it for a couple weeks but so far so good. It was a good price and I would recommend giving it a try, there are some more fancy looking adapters for a higher price but this one works fine so why pay more when you don't even see it once its plugged in.
One thing to keep in mind is the length of the adapter though; after trying one HDMI cord, the plug was too long to fit behind my monitor. I just had to use a more flexible HDMI cord with a shorter end, but that's not a fault of the adapter.
a Samsung monitor (vdi-d dual).
note: make sure your monitor is capable of VDI-D dual signal. I tried to connect the Raspberry Pi 2 to an older Acer monitor, but the monitor
would not display, The connection on the monitor accepted the dual plug even though it was only capable of VDI-D single..
