Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Julian, author of several books on France, including the recent Pagnol's Provence (Trafalgar Square, 1995), takes us on a tour of areas of Paris associated with the Impressionist painters of the late 19th century. A good introduction to the Impressionist movement and short biographies of the artists set the stage for this unique travel book. The eight chapters on walks and drives through the various sections where artists lived or painted include many reproductions of relevant paintings, maps of walking or driving routes, commentary on sights of interest, and information regarding hotels, museums, restaurants, and tourist offices. Although it is a bit large and heavy for a pocket book, this well-produced guide will be a pleasure for art and Paris lovers. Recommended for all public libraries.?George M. I was in Paris several months ago, and I very much enjoyed Julian More's perspective and observations on places I visited. The pictures and maps enhanced the journey. I will use the book as a guide next time I visit Paris.

No guidebook on the market gives a tour like this one. Viewing the places where painters painted with your own eyes is the only way you can really understand their work. Great personal learning tool. Makes the Impressionists come alive.
