I love this mirror.
For the positives,
It's pretty, the stand alone table top base was easy to assemble as well as sturdy and sound. The mirror itself is very high quality. Imagine the difference between, say, a cheap compact mirror and a luxury department store mirror. It just has that quality to the reflection. The whole assembly is also incredibly sturdy, and heavy, good quality. The black gloss is lovely, too. I also love that it has a 2 plug outlet and dimmer. Very nice. There is some heat coming off the mirror when in use, but that is to be expected with 12 bulbs blaring in your face lol
This mirror is a good size! I got the male vanity table from ikea, it's like the mall desk, and with the base it takes up almost the entire surface of the table. Maybe 4 inches open in the front, and 6 inches on either side. That's not a big deal though because you can arrange stuff on the base as well.
When I plug my hair dryer in (a new and nice model from hot tools) the lights will dim alot until it's turned off. I haven't tested it with my straightener or anything, just because I don't use it frequently. Not that big of a deal though, honestly, because I don't need that level of light quality to blow dry my hair :)
On to the bulbs and sockets! Sure, it comes with bulbs, which is nice because a dozen good quality bulbs isn't cheap, but let me tell you, they. are. crap. Truuuuuuust me. The ones that came with mine? Several were burned out from the get go, the ones that did work seemed very old, brittle, and especially fragile. Like above and beyond your typical light bulbs are fragile fragility. One burnt out a few days after putting it together, had maybe used the mirror once or twice for an hour or two, and when unscrewing it, the globe actually broke off in my hand away from the base while it was still screwed in. That was frustrating because the sockets for the bulbs are also, idk, a bit stiff? You feel resistance when you screw them in, so that didn't help at all. The metal base was literally stuck in the socket, and since that socket was already tight and stiff, and recessed further into the mirror than the surface of the framework, very difficult to remove. I ended up having to grip the glass inner assembly with a t-shirt and gently and firmly keep twisting it to get it out yet not break the glass and fillaments. On impressionsvanityco.com, they give you the choice of either standard incandescent or clear, as well as the same options in an led upgrade. You don't get any option with this mirror buying it from Amazon (however that's OK because the website doesn't carry this model and the others that are comparable are much more expensive) the bulbs this mirror comes with when buying off amazon are the kind that have the white coating so you can't see the inside. Well, on some of the bulbs the white coating (which is on the inside of the glass bulb) had flaked off so there'd be these wierd glowy patches where the glass was clear, and even worse, they were dirty and dusty on the inside which BIG TIME shines through when turned on. Like only way I can explain it is the boxes that the bulbs came in had them stored globe side down and in the very front part of the globe dust or whatever settled and when screwed in and turned on it looks like there's these big discolored dark Grey circles. Gross. Just gross. HEY AMAZON/IMPRESSIONS ID LIKE THOSE REPLACED PLEASE.
Also, while I love the table top assembly, if you wanted to wall mount your mirror it would not sit flush against the wall because the cord comes straight out the back and there's no dip in the frame to accommodate that. So basically it would be tilted a bit so the cord could hang down. I also thought the area in the back used for wall mounting seemed somewhat flimsy, but as I'm not hanging it I can't say for certain.
Overall, i love this mirror. The biggest negative for me was the bulbs but thankfully those can be replaced, and your mirror is mostly perfect. Would buy again.
