I LOVED this book. Especially because of the romance and mystery. An Improbable Pairing gave me both, plus MORE. It took me to places that I never get to visit. Honestly, I felt like I was in there in Europe. In the beginning I was introduced to a character who I didn't know if he was a good guy or a bad guy. Then, as the story unfolded I had my answer. A MUST read!

A beautiful story about love

Gary Dickson's novel deals with true love from start to finish. You get the feeling that at some point the older countess is going to dump her "boy toy" younger lover at some point, but the twist is that they both love each other, and marry.
Sounds corny, but Dickson's writing is impeccable. The way he describes restaurants, salons , palaces, and especially the countesses attires leaves no attention to detail undone. And it all takes place during a golden era in Europe - the early 1960s. If you have had the pleasure of being in Switzerland and Paris back then, you get the feeling and vibe that Dickson's book brings forth. I highly recommend it.

What a name dropper. If he described the table service one more time .............I bought the book because I too have a past time in Paris and areas written of even though I was there 30 years later. I was expecting a Roman Holiday sort of experience, something the author tried to evoke. Name dropping hotels restaurants design houses of ALL sorts. Poor Desiree......she deserved better than to end with that wimpy note in her garter!

I loved this book! I made it last as long as I could so it wouldn't end. The writer, Mr. Gary Dickson, used the English language to artistically transport me to places I have only dreamed about. Each page had me wondering what would happen next! And of course the ending?? What does the note mean? Does it bode well for the new couple? Maybe another book is in the works. I can only hope!

The book did take me to places I never would have known existed. (I looked them all up on the net as they went from place to place!) Not at all disappointed in the book.
