The first book in The Little Season Series - An Improper Arrangement reminds me a little of the Enterprising Ladies Series. So, if you're a fan of those books, you might enjoy this one. I love a heroine who knows what she wants, knows her way around people, and doesn't take any guff from anyone, anywhere. Not a haughty miss, just one who is confident, aware of the place in which Society places women, yet seems to know how to have her cake and eat it too. Such is Thea, our heroine. Having been brought from America by a dotty duchess, Vivian, who has her own motives related to getting her quack duke of a husband, Basil, out of his deathbed (he isn't sick by the way) and on with his life, Thea will supposedly be a tool in Vivian's hand along with Gabriel, Vivian's favorite nephew to aid her in her quest to Get. Basil. Up. and Going.
From the very beginning, Gabriel and Thea are at odds with one another - albeit in a sexy, bantering romantic manner. Gabriel has his own issues to deal with and when he realizes Vivian's use for Thea will fall in step with his own plans to bring down a villainous earl, he can't keep from jumping on board and getting in the game. Much like "Indiscreet," Gabe has one rackety friend and a couple of others who have made up a friendship of four men who have been lifelong friends and have recently returned from war and a prison camp, all because of the machinations of the Earl of Broxley. So, it's time to bring 'em on and let's take down the earl. From Gabe's first sight of Thea, he was done in - all the way. It just takes him awhile to accept his fate. Great repartee between Gabe and Thea. I wasn't so crazy about all the birds which figured largely in the storyline. Oh well, you must take some of the not so good occasionally with the good.
