"The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.
He beds me down in green pastures with sweet water.
He leads me on a good trail and stays with me in the tight places.
And the Lord's spread will be my home forever. Amen."
This is a wonderful, witty, western love story full of charm and appeal. It's book one in the Front Range Brides series, I'll be on the lookout for book two and hope I get a glimpse of Cade and Mae Ann down the road. I also happened to notice more of Spencer's wit at work in her publishing company's name, storyDspencer, very clever Davalynn!
A total hook that one doesn't expect with Inspiration Romance. That's what I love about this author's books. She is like a Master Chef, using faith & love as the base, she combines a few unexpected twists to keep you guessing--adds a bit of suspense, and sprinkled throughout is her witty/genuine humor.
Mrs Spencer has the ability to make her characters seem lifelike....to the point, you would want them to be a part of your family or friends.
The other reviewers have retold the basic story line---I just want to add how enjoyable it is to read this author, whose attention to detail and historical accuracy is wonderful without being excessive. I, myself--skip over the overuse of adjectives many authors indulge in describing a person's dress or a room's decor. Mrs Spencer is gifted in her descriptions without boring the reader. Her emphasis on motive/heart/reasoning and use of dialogue is some of the best in fiction. I was thrilled to read her latest book and eagerly awaiting the next.
Lots of mail order brides, didn't fair to well with these types of marriages, but you do what you have to do to survive your circumstances. I'm not mad at her..and once you read this part of western history, you'll understand. This adventure Isn't all sadness but there are parts that will have you smiling or a quick giggle. It's a pleasurable peek at frontier living. You know your closest neighbor might be twenty miles away. Possible medical care might be a hundred miles from where you live...rough, rough....
This is a well-written and sweet story. There is good character development. The ending is satisfying.
