You've been warned!
Our story takes place in 1818 England. Lady Bianca Wells is no stranger to a good scandal, having run away from home with her Italian lover some years ago, bringing shame upon the family name and finally marrying a man 20 years her senior... all before hitting age eighteen! Now she's been widowed for three years, during which time she's not paid much mind to taking a lover. That is until Blake, her new footman comes into her employ. He's simply dashing and a most worthy pursuit. Bianca decides that no matter how improper, she's going to seduce him.
This story is steamy! I'm telling you, it's a very good thing I wasn't wearing my glasses because they would've fogged up from cover to cover! The story itself is well written and most certainly keeps you turning the page!
The story focuses on a widowed Countess, Bianca, starved of love and excitement. She finds herself extremely attracted to her footman, Harry Blake. Throwing caution to the wind she presents him with a proposition. A one night stand.
Bianca has her doubts though and it shows in her thinking.
"Oh, Bianca. What on earth are you thinking? He's your footman."
However, it's his acceptance that truly shocks and excites her. She knows that they can't really be together, afraid of the scandal that would happen. Bianca has experienced scandal before, but the reason isn't revealed until toward the end of the story, it is just alluded to.
Blake also has his doubts and finds himself falling in love with her.
"Harden your heart, Blake. She will never be yours. You're her servant-her footman-and that's all."
After their one night stand, things become stressed between them. The appearance of being normal becomes difficult. And Blake starts to look elsewhere for employment.
Bianca, in order to save her relationship with Blake, comes up with another proposition for him. In the name of love they risk all to be together. Rest assured, there is a HEA.
My thoughts: It was good, despite the fact that there was not a lot of conflict. It focuses on the sexual, forbidden chemistry between a Countess and a footman. It was a fun quick read.
Short and very hot. Highly recommended
