Cute, fits big, head piece too large, antennae don't stand up on their own, fuzzies on material but they machine washed out easily, booties are separate with stickies/grippies on the bottom, wings snap on/off, sleeper-style body suit (footless) with snaps along legs for diaper changes, enough room for sweaters etc underneath/ nice and warm on its own.
We ordered a 6-12 month size for our 7 month old based on the the reviews I saw here. Because our daughter is much longer than average for her age, it fit her just right. If I hadn't seen all the reviews stating it fit large, I would have ordered the 12-18 month as thats what she wears now. (Thanks Amazon reviews!).
Again, based on reviews here I expected the head piece to be too large (which it was) and the antennae to be floppy (which they were). I took the head piece in about 2 inches with a simple whip stitch from the crown all the way down to her neck and it still had some extra room. So they definitely are large! Nothing I couldn't fix but if you can't sew you might need to call in a favour (or put a toque underneath to fill up some of that space). Or use safety pins from the inside?? The antennae... I had all these grand plans to use wire or something to make them stand up... In the end I just left them. They laid down on the top of her forehead, but they were still really cute!!!
The booties are separate (if that matters) with stickies/grippies on the bottom and the rest is like a footless sleeper: one big unit. It has snaps along the legs of diaper changes. Great for Canadian Halloween which is usually below zero and full of snow. We actually just put her in a long sleeve onesie, pants and socks then put this suit on. I used. Blanket when we went from vehicle to building and she was warm enough but not too hot while in the home.
The wings have snaps which make car seat use super easy. However, the wings have this silver paint (?) on them and when I unpacked the costume for the first time the grippies on the booties were kind of stuck onto the wings. I managed to gently pry them off with no damage to either, but I used some wax paper and covered the wings prior to repacking for storage to keep if from happening again.
I washed the headpiece, booties and body suit on delicate in the washer twice and hung to dry prior to wear. It was giving off some black and yellow fuzzies upon unpacking and I can't handle fuzzies. They drive me crazy. The wash was all it needed. I threw everything in the drier for a few minutes on low to fluff it up and it was perfect.
Did I mention how freaking cute this costume was?! :)
I like this costume compared to other bee costumes at the stores. It looks more expensive. The wings are really cute and they have glitter on them. There is a little stinger on the back of the costume.
Don't plan on using the head piece. You will be better off getting a little headband with antennas. Too bad, because I wanted my baby's ears covered.
