I personally like the APLc controls, and prefer them over all others for *concealed carry*, including the XC1 - which is more than double the price, for ???? reason - definitely not because "it's a Surefire." (I sent mine back twice in 6 months; once because the switch ripped off snagging my shirt in a class, and another because it just randomly stopped working). And generally, I'm a big fan of Surefire products, just not with their compact WML. Anyways, I used my APLc through two low-light classes, from concealment, plus ~2500 rounds over the last 3 weeks, plus countless dry fire reps, and have yet to ND the light (something that happens occasionally with something like a TLR-1), or break it.
Compared to a larger WML, being much smaller, and lighter weight, meaning the holster is smaller, weights less overall, becoming more comfortable, ultimately meaning it'll likely be carried more frequently (like, all the time) - which is always a good thing - easy compromise over a larger WML, in my opinion. Duty/open carry, I have no problem with larger WML's for more light, and own a number of them. I'd like to see the next generation APLc have more lumens with similar focus, even if it has to sacrifice a little battery life.
Bottom line, the APLc has it's place. For me, it's normally a EDC. I'm very rarely concealed carrying something larger or smaller than a G19, and there's really no reason to not leave the APLc mounted to it 24/7.
My only suggestion is to make sure you have the "lens cap" part tight as possible - I noticed one day that the light didn't turn on, and it was because the lens cap loosened a bit. They advertise this as a feature to "turn off" the light for storage, but I'd caution that it might find itself "off" when you need it on more than ever. It hasn't come loose again since I ensured it was tight.
And almost as important, it looks amazing on a Glock 19. This light looks like it was made for the Glock, and doesn't stick out or have awkward controls. Pretty bright too, about on par with my other pistol lights.
